Intercity Rio de Janeiro Porto Maravilha

This is a 3 star hotel claiming to be 4 stars. The staff was excellent, the buffet was overpriced and there is nothing in the area to see unless you hire a ride or use the public transportation. The price is outrageous for the stay.

Location is not the best, very loud and no restaurants or shops within walking distance. Switched to another room after spending two nights in the first room due to the sewage smell emitting from the drains in the bathroom and lingering on the 11th floor. The room was not ready at all.. the comforter wasn't made with the bed (the bed was made with sheets while the comforter and reamaining two pills sat elsewhere in the room). The second room on the 15th was better than the first, it smelt nice & the room was ready. The bathroom door is a barn door and couldn't close entirely, same as the glass door for the stand in shower. The walls in both rooms were dirty and scuffed. Room service didn't bring everything I ordered and when I called back, the staff hung up on me (it was about 20mins prior to closing) and it was literally just ice cream that was missing. Upon checking out, I was able to get a late check out. When paying the bill prior to my departure, there were added on charges for their "restaurant". This was quickly resolved by the hotel staff as I provided receipts for my uber showing I wasn't on the premises for me to eat at the onsite restaurant and I only ate there once being the 30th and ordered room service the other days. After seeing the proof of purchase for my ubers that are date and timestamped, he removed the charges.

Awful experience. Money stolen from wallet on the first morning by cleaning staff as the safe is broken. Staff didn’t care nor offer any options, not even a workable safe. Staff will not even book a taxi for you. WiFi is terrible so can’t order a taxi. Needed to work while on this trip and couldn’t as the WiFi doesn’t work properly. Was asking for advice from front desk and they were horrible and hostile. Food is mediocre at the buffet. Accidentally left the bar after consuming one drink after a long work day and the staff banged aggressively on the door. A simple mistake. No basic humanity, kindness or understanding with their behavior. The most horrible experience of any hotel and staff in all the decades of travel. Miserable staff, minus a few younger ladies and the night staff member. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Management will just regurgitate the same pathetic excuses like all the other negative reviews. Can’t wait to leave this hell hole hotel
