Hotel am Schloß Apolda

It's a fantastic place to stay for the night (or few) if you are in business trip or during private journey. Location is great - you can have nice starting base for walk around Apolda city. Food and all of services provided in the hotel are on the top level. This is a place which can be recommend to all.

Rooms are clean even tho they're a bit old school. Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio in the restaurant is absolutely not right. Far too high prices for convenience products. With such a small menu of 6 main courses, you expect perfection, especially when the restaurant is advertised as "gourmet delights". It lacks the attention to detail, the real craftsmanship of cooking, the passion... Somehow intentional but not skillful. A real pity after the great renovation. Breakfast is okay tho. Staff is friendly but sometimes awkward and seems lost. Perhaps apprentices left to their own devices.

The bed was comfortable and clean, the bathroom was newly refurbished and modern. They also had a hand towel for each bed (the kids slept in our room) which is a plus. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The hallway, however, smells of hospital deodorant and the carpet looks ancient. The breakfast buffet was nothing special and my wife was miffed that there were no croissants.
