23 Love Lane Hotel

Booked 23 LoveLane after comparing several Georgetown options - definitely the right call for our family with two kids. Located on a quiet street but just 5 minutes from main attractions and street art. The family room configuration was practical - parents' area separated from children's space, with enough room for our 7-year-old son to play without disturbing his sister's nap. The interior combines heritage architecture with modern necessities - good AC, reliable WiFi and thoughtful room layout. Morning breakfast was efficient with both Western and Malaysian options that satisfied our picky eaters. The courtyard with small pond became our son's morning routine spot while we planned our day. What stood out was the afternoon tea service - a smart touch that saved us from dragging tired kids to cafés after sightseeing. The small library with board games kept our son engaged while we rested. It's a pricier than chain hotels in Penang but the quiet atmosphere and convenient location justified the premium.

The hotel: a heritage small hotel; beautifully decorated and maintained with attention to detail. The location: perfect! Just some 100m from a very lively part of the city, but we never had issues with the noise from the street. The breakfast: à la carte (apart from the french toast everything else is savoury) and a small basic buffet. It was OK. The High tea: every afternoon, complimentary for the guests, with many small delicacies. The owners: friendly, smiley and helpful. Our Eclectic Straights room: large and comfortable with a huge bed! Loved the decor. The bathroom was unusually big with plenty of toiletries and fresh white towels, daily. BUT, the shower area in the bathroom needs a serious refurbishing as the black mould has really been expanding!.. And this is the reason, I am removing one star. It is a pity that when so much care is put on this monumental building, the cleanliness in the bathroom goes kind of unattended...

The place was nicely decorated but room was much smaller than expected. Very noisy at night and in early morning because there were constant motorbikes driving beside the hotel. Someone was yelling outside the hotel at around 02:00am for almost an hour.
