The room was comfortable, and the location was convenient. Breakfast was pleasant, and the staff working there were polite and attentive. When we noticed the sink was blocked shortly after arrival, someone from maintenance arrived within three minutes and resolved it efficiently — exactly the kind of responsiveness one expects from a Marriott property. Unfortunately, that level of service was not consistent throughout our stay. Our experience was completely overshadowed by the behaviour of the front desk staff — specifically, the blonde, middle-aged woman without glasses who checked us in. She was the first person we encountered at the hotel, and sadly, the one who left the deepest impression. From the moment we approached the desk, her attitude was cold and dismissive. Simple questions were met with exaggerated frowns, theatrical eye-rolls, and pointed sighs. She muttered constantly in Italian, not loud enough to understand, but just loud enough to know it wasn’t complimentary. And this wasn’t an isolated moment. On July 2nd, the day we made the booking, we attempted to call the front desk more than ten times between 20:21 and 21:02 — not a single call was answered. We assumed the system wasn’t working. Out of curiosity, we tried calling again on July 3rd with a different staff member on duty. The call was picked up in four seconds. That told us everything we needed to know. It became clear that this wasn’t a hotel-wide issue, but rather a personal policy — one defined by avoidance and passive hostility. To call her a receptionist is generous. She felt more like an obstacle deliberately placed between guests and any sense of welcome. The rest of the staff were professional and kind, which only made the contrast more jarring. In London, failing to respond to a guest’s “have a nice day” might be seen as a bit rude. Here, one gets the sense that speaking to guests at all is entirely optional. When we checked out this afternoon, we were greeted by two male staff members and two other women at reception — all of whom were friendly and helpful. After a lovely afternoon at St. Peter’s Basilica, I even said a small prayer that I wouldn’t see the same blonde woman again when collecting our luggage. Thankfully, it seems my prayer was heard. Sometimes, divine intervention really does work in mysterious ways. I sincerely hope she was part of some experimental theatre piece. Because if that was real customer service, it was certainly… unforgettable.
Booked just one night on a 8-day trip in Italy. The hotels location was fair, and that was the highlight of the stay. One week prior to my family checking in (we booked 3 rooms), we were told that my room was going to be upgraded to a Jacuzzi suite - that was great - I was a loyal Marriott Rewards member and really appreciated the upgrade. Two days prior, I received another update that the Jacuzzi was unavailable now due to lack of inventory, but for a small fee, I could upgrade my room. I let the hotel know that I was fine with the room that I booked. The three rooms I had booked were supposed to be the exact same rate. Once I got to the hotel to check in, they told me that instead of the Jacuzzi suite, they had upgraded my room to a corner suite. I said that was fine, but I do not want to pay for the upgrade. They assured me that is was a complimentary upgrade based on my status. When I got to the "Balcony Suite" the door to the balcony was broken and could not lock or close all the way. When I called the front desk, no other rooms were available and they seemed upset that the comped upgrade was not to my satisfaction. Along with the broken door, the Balcony has one small table and only one chair - no room for 2 people. On top of that our air conditioner was broke. Nothing the hotel could do until the next day. Upon checking out, each of the three rooms had a different room rate. I was told by the front desk that the manager was not in, and the rate could not be adjusted without the managers approval. Once back at home, exchanged several emails directly with the hotel - no help. If you have other options, I would stay somewhere else.
Utter Disappointment at AC Hotel Marriott Clodio Roma Where do I begin? If you're looking for a relaxing, comfortable stay in Rome—this is not the place. I had the unfortunate experience of dealing with both air conditioning drainage issues and a completely dysfunctional iron. Sounds minor? Try spending a summer night in Rome with warm air and soggy carpet. The room smelled faintly of mildew thanks to the AC draining problem, which apparently wasn't a surprise to staff ("Ah yes, again?"), and the carpet under the unit felt like a sponge. Lovely. As for ironing? Good luck. The iron was a relic from another century, sputtering water and leaving more wrinkles than it removed. I might as well have rolled around in my suitcase. Service was polite, but ineffective—smiles don’t solve engineering issues. I expected more from a Marriott-branded property. Instead, I got the sense of a hotel coasting on the name and location, not service or functionality. Would I return? Only if I developed a sudden nostalgia for damp floors and crumpled shirts.
