Great hotel. Extremely friendly and helpful staff including one that has been there since 1991! It was renovated in 2010 but still seems oddly dated. But it was extremely clean and the rooms were comfortable and aircon very effective. It has a huge reception and food/terrace area. Fabulous rooftop pool and bar with all important shaded area with chairs and tables. Food and drinks available to order by the pool. We couldn't have been in a better location. Right on the edge of the Old Town and 10mins stroll from the lovely beach. Perfect. Beds were the most comfortable we've slept in away from home. Only minor criticism was having to hold the shower head and the fried eggs were always cold! (Although the microwave soon sorted that out 🙂)

Stayed at Achillion Palace the first week in July 2025 Great Location in the Heart of Rethymno Crete. The Staff were so accommodating and helpful especially Poppy at Reception and Celia at pool area, couldn't do enough to keep us happy and comfortable while we Relaxed... The Only Negative would be the Bathrooms, They were Tiny and could do with upgrades.

No idea why this place has 4 stars, everything in the rooms is very old. The door on the safe in the closet didn’t open, close or latch at all. The shower head faces the wrong way on the shower and house keeping only left us 1 large bath towel for 2 adults every day they came in. The room phone also does not connect to the front desk. And be careful when booking experiences through the front desk staff, they truly had no idea about about so many important things. Like purchasing food on the trip (the front desk guy told us we couldn’t and needed to bring our own, but you could purchase food on the ferry) and the amount of walking required (there is a good amount for the Balos & pirate island tour). They’re friendly, but also didn’t have recommendations for cultural restaurants. And their English wasn’t the greatest either.
