We stayed in a budget room with the room supports across half of the ceiling. It did feel a bit cramped and the room was kinda dimly lit even with all of the lights on. The bed was low to the ground, and soft without much support. I actually preferred that because I am a side sleeper. The room was very clean overall. The fridge doesn’t really do anything. It didn’t feel much cooler than the room. The bathroom was kinda old and dingy. But the water pressure was fine and I really appreciated the inclusion of a multi layer shelf. This particular hotel does not have an elevator so it may be unsuited for people who can’t easily traverse stairs. I really appreciated the staff. The female staff member that helped check us in on the 1st was great. We had asked if we could perhaps get a room with two small beds but that was unavailable. She informed us she would ask for us the next day, and the next night when we returned the bed in our room was replaced by two small beds. 10/10 service. All of the staff working while we were there were friendly and helpful. The hotel is located in a convenient location. It is within walking distance of many restaurants and attractions/viewpoints. It is also right beside the tram.
The rooms were nice and accommodating. Unfortunately, the rail cars and traffic were very noisy throughout the night. It was hard to get a good nights rest because of the noise.
The Good: Great, central location, right in the middle of Alfama. Copenhague Coffee Lab right next door for delicious breakfast. Working A/C in room. Cleaners doing a good job. The Bad: Bit run down. No lift. €5 deposit required for an extra keycard (never seen this anywhere before – same goes for 'you have to book your breakfast the day before if you want it'). Reception staff range from not bothered to friendly-ish. In-room fridge didn't work (well it hummed but was warmer inside than the room). The Ugly: Horrendous room design (307). Not enough headspace on one side of the bed. Scuff marks from where heads got hit – including mine, almost knocked myself out one night. Be warned. Summary: This place is memorable for all the wrong reasons – whilst in a great location this should be a 2 star establishment at best. Also – if the owners/managers read this: Install some padding on those sharp ceiling edges where they intersect with the bed area. (22/06/2025)
