⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I recently had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Alma in San Diego for my birthday weekend, and I couldn't be happier with my choice! With its prime location in the heart of Gaslamp, yet just off the busy streets, it offered the perfect blend of excitement and tranquility. The cost was reasonable, making it an even sweeter deal! From the moment I arrived, I was blown away by the 5-star customer service. Brandon, the front desk director, and his team went above and beyond to ensure my stay was unforgettable. I was pleasantly surprised to find unexpected birthday treats waiting for me in my room, complete with a handwritten note—such a delightful touch in our digital age! Marriott has always been one of my favorite hotel brands, and Hotel Alma is truly a hidden gem within their portfolio. The ambiance, the attention to detail, and the warm hospitality made my birthday celebration feel extra special. I can't wait to return and create more wonderful memories at this fantastic hotel! Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable stay in San Diego!
Overall the hotel is clean and staff are friendly. But there are homeless people sitting and walking right in front of it. The hotel doesn’t do anything about it, and I don’t know if they can. But next to the hotel about 10 feet, was a lady with a needle in her hand completely out of it. We saw about 20 different homeless people in less than 1 day being there. On either side of the hotel entrance about 10 feet away it smells like urine. I know this is downtown San Diego but I’ve stayed in hundreds of downtowns before and the hotel staff at least try to make you feel safe. I didn’t see any security and the valet staff didn’t do anything about it when they were standing right in front of or next to guests cars on the streets. Would not stay here as a single girl or even multiple girls on a trip. Rooftop deck/ pool/ bar is not worth it.
The staff (Krystal, the dad joke fan, Sam, Gabriel, Ray, Bradly) and food is amazing! rooms are comfortable, clean and hotel is perfectly located. San Diego has a ***HUGE*** homeless problem, and this makes it a pain to come home after 9 pm. as the door staff had a hard time distinguishing a hotel guest from homeless person, (which is hard when you don't look up from your phone) But other than that inconvenience, our stay here was wonderful. Note for management, the bathroom on the second floor is not ADA compliant. While I was using the gender neutral bathroom, an older guest who had vision problems could not find the exit because the exit is painted black and the exit sign is out of sight, and this older man was very frustrated. See photos, suggestion move sign so its visible from inside bathroom. Further, our bathroom sink was clogged the entire stay, the fridge was leaking water, and the shower needed help as when you took one, it got water everywhere. These things make me question the value of my stay. I also heard another guest talking to staff about problems with their fridge.
