Silver Lining

Amman is the five star among the top notch hotels in Thailand. Its architecture and interior design rival the best conservative designs in its timelessness and quiet comfort. Examples are the windows of the meeting room and the the awesome five-floor-high drapes. The attention to details are exceptional: firm but comfortable mattress and sloped tiles in the shower. If this hotel were in Bangkok or any seaside / island resort, it is worth 4-5 times its current rate. The only regret is in the maintenance (and I hope the owners would read this review). Example: one small screw loose rendering the shower head only half functional — needing one hand to hold the shower head and not hands free in the shower. What’s the point? This sort of thing happens everywhere in Thai hotels. Maids cannot do the repair and things become worse. Screw loosening is due to normal daily usage; but left unattended it may lead to the breakage of the entire assembly. Therefore, the house keeping staff should be trained to notice and report “small” out of the ordinary deviation to in-house specialists (plumbers, painters, gardener, repairmen) to prevent further damage which could cost big money in repairs. One more thing: the WiFi is “bursty” at best, occasionally bursts to a high of 5Mb.

I have not yet been a guest at this hotel, but I recently visited to patronize the restaurant. I arrived on Saturday afternoon at lunchtime, and the restaurant was packed. I was unable to get a table and will return at a later time for a meal and a follow-up to this review. There is a lovely coffee shop located between the restaurant and the lobby, so I ordered an iced Americano and then found a very comfortable seat in the lounge area. As the many photos posted in the reviews of this hotel attest, the Turkish- style decor and the interior design are quite exquisite. Service was friendly and prompt. The place buzzed with visitors, all looking for the perfect selfie photo location. Parking is adequate although they must have overflow parking somewhere for when they have large events. Whether you are staying at the hotel or not, I would suggest this is worth a visit to have a beverage or meal.

Air conditioning was top notch. My wife couldn’t get the hot water to work and took a cold one. I played around with it long enough that I eventually got it to work. The bed was quite firm. But not too uncomfortable. There was a balcony shower/bath if you like bathing outside. It was pretty quiet. Worth $150 a night, ehhh. We booked it last minute.
