We had a lovely stay at the Kimpton Angler’s in South Beach. Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised with an upgrade — always a great way to start a trip! The valet and front desk staff were incredibly respectful, welcoming, and professional, making check-in smooth and enjoyable. The hotel itself is beautiful and well-kept, with a relaxed, upscale vibe. It’s conveniently located just two blocks from the beach and within walking distance of great shops and restaurants. We also really appreciated the complimentary electric bikes for the first two hours and the beach bags available for guests — thoughtful touches that made exploring even easier. Unfortunately, the service poolside and through room service didn’t match the level of hospitality at the front desk. We were unable to get assistance multiple times to place an order while at the pool, which was disappointing, especially given the otherwise high quality of the hotel. Overall, though, the Kimpton Angler’s offers a wonderful South Beach experience with great amenities and a prime location. With some improvements to food and beverage service, it could easily be a five-star stay.
The Kimpton banner of hotels are so pet Friendly and they gave my pup the royal treatment. I booked and planned this trip through my IGH rewards back before my Dachshund had a back injury. In the mist of his down days, I thought to cancel, but with Gods grace he was able to strut his lil butt right through the doors. We stayed for 3 nights over July 4th. The IHG brand hotels have always taken such good care of us. We were upgraded to a beautiful balcony room with the perfect view of Washington Ave. The Angler was originally built in the 1930s as a hotel catering to fishermen. It was designed by architect Henry Maloney and featured a Mediterranean Revival style. IHG purchased, renovated and built an additional more modern six story hotel with a roof top pool complex, which we 1st stayed. The original Angler building remains on property and hosts the El Patio Mediterranean restaurant on the 1st floor and hotel rooms on 2nd and 3rd floors. With our adult Son joining us on Sat, they accommodated a room swap over to a suite with a sofa bed which was in the original 1930’s building. The original building is eclectic, as it is almost 100 years old, with worn floors and a quirky entrance. I appreciate IHG for keeping the historic architecture and enjoyed the old photos of the property in the 1st floor hallway.
When we first checked in, we were only given two vouchers for the breakfast included in the upgraded price we paid for the room through Booking.com. Wouldn't have paid the extra money for breakfast to be included if I had known I was only going to receive two vouchers for the three people in our room. The vouchers cost $30 a person and the portion size the next morning was small for the price. You are limited to a small menu to choose from and you can't just grab what you want. In the room, the pillows were way too soft and just sank down to the bed, so I woke up with a sore neck. The sofa bed didn't have any sheets on it or in the room so I had to call housekeeping for those. I also had to call housekeeping for extra towels to put on the floor of the bathroom since the room had a halfway enclosed shower where the glass is not able to move and only blocks half of the side and it was leaking out from it not being fully closed when in use. The staff were friendly and helpful and did help out with the housekeeping calls. The room was clean and spacious. The bed was comfortable besides the pillows, and the location of the hotel to the beach was very good. Only 2 blocks away from the beach. Also, if you plan on eating close by, I'm not sure if it's every restaurant close by but the restaurant we chose to go to had an automatic service charge of 20% on the bill (Mama's Tacos.) If, and that's a big if, I chose to stay here again, I would not choose the breakfast included option. I would pack my own pillow from home for the room, and ask for more towels upfront at check-in due to the showers being halfway enclosed.
