We enjoyed our stay at this aparthotel and 100% would stay again. 1. Great value for the money. Spacious, clean rooms with super comfy beds, high ceilings, and a washing machine (they can give you a drying rack and most clothes dry overnight), a kettle (and complimentary tea bags in the lobby), a microwave, a fridge, a stove. They call it an aparthotel for a reason. We made use of all of those things minus the stove. 2. A 24-hour front desk with helpful staff that can help answer your questions about the hotel/city/neighborhood as well as sell you a bunch of useful things like laundry pods and water bottles. 3. A short walk from the city center and well-connected by public transportation to other parts of the city (including the airport) and the country (as it's close to Riga's central station). 4. Its location in a historic residential neighborhood makes the experience (at least in my opinion) more authentic than staying in Old Riga. It's also worth noting that if you want air conditioning, you can ask for a room facing the yard, as the City does not allow window units in the rooms that face the streets (although it's important to mention that the hotel does carry a number of portable a/c units that can be installed in those rooms). However, unless there is a heat wave, I doubt you'll need air conditioning because Latvian summers are usually mild. We stayed there in August and found it comfortable and not too noisy with the windows open at night. We were worried about the mosquitoes, but they didn't seem to be a problem either. Any regrets? As we were leaving for the airport, we realized we had run our of cash and we weren't able to tip the cleaning staff. That's about it.

Great hotel-style apartments. Clean, well designed, and spacious rooms. Bathrooms have a bathtub and kitchens are well stocked with dishwater. It’s a 15 minute walk to old town and a five minute walk to the central market. We enjoyed our stay. Parking was available for $10 Euro / night. Our only complaint is that they only provide you with two coffee pods per room, full stop. I’ve never stayed somewhere that doesn’t provide you the equivalent of one coffee per person, per day or provide free refills upon request. Especially frustrating because there’s not a coffee shop nearby so you are dependent on their Nescafé pod machine. They charge you 80 cents a pod for more, which is quite petty. Why not just provide an extra few coffee pods? Otherwise a lovely experience!

I travel extensively, and staying at Aparthotel Amella in Riga was by far the worst hotel experience I have ever had anywhere in the world. On the day I was attending an important wedding, there was no hot water for several hours. I called the reception and spoke with Nils, explaining the urgency of the situation and kindly asking if the issue could be fixed quickly. He told me to wait. After waiting for over an hour, the problem was still unresolved. I tried to call Nils again – 6 or 7 times – but he completely ignored my calls. I then went down to the reception to speak with the general manager, expecting a professional in a suit or shirt. Instead, the cleaning lady Laura told me she was the general manager. She simply said the problem could not be fixed and that they were “very sorry.” She asked me to change the room but I was already late for the wedding and it was not an option. Both Laura and especially Nils were extremely rude and unhelpful. In the end, I missed the chance to properly get ready for the wedding and even went to the police station to try to file a complaint. I arrived at the wedding with more than 3h delay. If you don’t mind paying for a room without hot water, then maybe this place is for you. But if you value basic amenities and respectful service, stay far away from Aparthotel Amella. I will absolutely never return.
