The Assheton Arms will forever hold a special place in our hearts and will always be our go-to accommodation whenever we visit England. We stayed for three nights and four days leading up to our wedding, and everything about our experience was exceptional. From the beautiful, spotless rooms to the incredible meals, both breakfast and dinner, every detail was perfect. The food, drinks, and service from every staff member were outstanding. A special thank you to Caley, the restaurant manager, who went above and beyond to make us feel at home. Her kindness, care, and attention to detail made all the difference during such a meaningful time. If you're visiting the charming village of Downham, we can't recommend The Assheton Arms enough. Rooms are delightful, so comfy with everything you need and tastefully decorated. location in such a beautiful village. breakfast has good selection of options, dinner at the pub is great. staffs are very helpful and friendly. would stay again.
We stayed in a standard room and it was beautiful. I love that a lot of the rooms are in nearby cottages rather than in the pub itself. The food was lovely and the service at our dinner was 5 star. I especially loved the eggs Benedict for breakfast. I only knocked the rating down a bit due to: - the service at breakfast being quite icy, tho granted this is only one staff member out of all the staff we met. - no air con or fans in the rooms which are needed during heat waves, like we have been having recently. - confusion over checkout. Our email said 11 but when we asked we were told half 10. When we went to checkout at half 10 we were waiting around quite a while for someone so it was closer to 11 in the end that we actually officially checked out. Frustrating. I'd give it 4.5 out of 5 if I could as it only just missed the mark but that's not an option!! I also may be being a little harsh with my scoring as it was so expensive for the food and drink, so you expect a little more.
