It is an excellent hotel. Fantastic service, perfect building, basement parking with elevator, breakfast beyond the ordinary. Prices are good. Location is really good. Nothing more to say.
The rooms are modern, with all the amenities one would expect. The staff is friendly and the service in the restaurant excellent. If you arrive by train, the hotel is right next to the central station without any noise reaching the rooms.
This is my experience at Atlantic Hotel Kiel. First of all, I’d like to mention that my family consists of three people. The reception at the hotel was pretty good — the receptionist was incredibly helpful and even recommended the hotel’s own rooftop restaurant, which we were excited to try. Unfortunately, our experience there was nothing short of a disaster. It was inappropriate, unacceptable, and honestly something I hope never to experience again. The moment we entered the rooftop restaurant, we were completely ignored. No one greeted us, offered help, or guided us to a table — something we expected as standard service, especially from a hotel restaurant. After waiting for some kind of direction and receiving none, we found our own table, which hadn’t even been cleared. It still had used beer cups and cigarettes on it — clearly not cleaned or ready for guests. We tried to get menus and called for a waiter twice, but were blatantly ignored. Meanwhile, a family who arrived after us was helped immediately. We sat at that dirty table for at least 20 minutes with no service, no acknowledgement, nothing. Eventually, we decided to leave. As we walked away, people around us laughed and giggled. It was humiliating and completely unprofessional. We were treated unfairly and with clear disregard. And this was all during a one-night stay — this is how bad the experience was in just a matter of hours. Considering we were the only people of a different nationality or background there, it’s hard not to feel like this could be linked to racism. We absolutely do not recommend this hotel — especially not for families of color.
