The receptionist at this hotel was incredibly helpful and kind. She assisted us with a future booking and helped with the coffee maker and lost phone charger and cord. We are very grateful to her for saving our holiday and for giving such excellent assistance.
On the positive side, all the staff were exceptional, polite and helpful. The building from the outside looks amazing - truly well restored. Unfortunately, the interior is badly in need of sympathetic restoration. Our room was to be found along narrow dark corridors (not all the communal lights worked) painted in a strange orange effect dating back to the 1980’s. Our ‘superior’ room also had matching orange walls. The bathroom only had a bath and hand held shower. Tiles, grout and mastic were showing signs of mould. The whole room felt tired. We wondered if this was ‘superior’ what was the standard of a normal room. We were offered another room at no extra cost. This was their suite as advertised on their site for about £70 more. For this you get a separate sitting area with a tv. The positive, the walls weren’t orange. But still the whole room felt long overdue a makeover. The bath again only had a handheld shower, the plug was broken. The shower screen seal was old and dirty and there was an exceedingly large window that looked out onto the bedroom - the site describes this as a ‘private bathroom’. The water took about 5 minutes to get warm. In the tiny separate toilet you had to keep the door open if you had long legs. The bed was comfortable but very strange faux grey leather with matching side tables. All instructions were only in French. Worryingly, finding our way back to reception exit doors aren’t clearly marked (they’re just blank white doors). We ate at the restaurant on the terrace overlooking the ponds. The food was excellent, but the lighting could be better - when our main course arrived we literally couldn’t see it, but a table lamp was provided when asked. Sorry, but this is not a 4 star hotel.
Unacceptable dirty and run-down hotel. Pictures do not match reality. Restaurant not open and breakfast offer very low quality . Do not expect to get a fresh coffee in the morning. Bathrooms very old and filthy. Rooms dark without day light and dusty. Location with limited access to public transportation and no grocery store or anything alike in walking distance. A lot of price for very little value. Not to recommend to stay there.
