I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. My back was quite sore after sleeping on the floor, but I felt the experience was worthwhile. We had abundant food for breakfast and dinner; I'm not sure how we managed to eat it all! They also offered a different menu each day of your stay. The onsen baths were nearly empty, which was lovely. We stayed with our child and encountered no problems. Furthermore, their bus shuttle service proved quite helpful.

We stayed at Aura Tachibana for two days and it was such a great experience. We stayed in the newer section of the hotel, and the rooms were very well kept. Our private onsen had a beautiful view of the rolling hills of Hakone. All of the meals were fantastic and the service impeccable (it was almost too much; expect 10+ courses for dinner). I’d highly recommend this ryokan to anyone looking to stay in Hakone, we had such a relaxing stay and would love to visit again next time we’re in Japan.

My partner and I stayed here for two nights. The hotel was able to provide vegetarian meals for us, as we have indicated our dietary requirements in our reservation a month ago. We stayed at Kaze no Tachi (the taller wing). Our room was perfect, beautiful views, comfortable beds/futons and super spacious and clean. While the default option was western style bed, the staff was kind enough to accommodate our request to sleep on futons on the tatami the second night, allowing us to experience both. The staff was helpful overall. Although I can understand why other reviews might have commented on potential language barriers, this is something that is inevitable in countryside Japan (or really countryside anywhere). The important thing is that they really try to make you feel welcomed. The only disappointment is that our breakfast on the last day was western style - a poorly done one as well. This is a stark contrast to everything else we have tasted. While their Japanese style meals are well executed and have a good variety of different ingredients/texture, their western style meal consist of a hash brown from the freezer, under-salted scrambled eggs and a bowl of corn soup that taste like something from a packaged meal. The basket of bread was okay at best, and the yogurt as dessert was also bland. A simple ochazuke (rice in tea) might have even been a better alternative. I felt a bit scammed by this western style breakfast seeing that other tables had a much more thoughtful Japanese style meal, similar to what we had the previous day. The staff told us that this is so that we don’t eat the same thing twice in a row, but it feels like they are just cutting corners here.
