Azoris Angra Garden Plaza Hotel

We loved this place. The garden is stunning, the breakfast was very good, the place was clean and very well decorated. The price was not expensive at all and everything is good quality. The food and drinks at the hotel were very good too.

Every aspect was easy to handle. However, the markup on the price did not match with my booking. It was supposed to be 744€/$840, BUT, ended up charging me $910. Pay in advance instead. Regardless, price was worth it. Gym was good, broken treadmills and unfilled cleaning spray made it hard for me to clean the equipment after use, but the view into the park was a nice touch. Friendly staff all around. Not a single negative attitude or vibe. Even helped us clarify where the bullrun was happening after many people giving us wrong information. I'm pretty easygoing so I may not have noticed it. Otherwise, when I return to the island, I WOULD stay here again.

The 2 most important things of a hotel stay are the bed and the shower. Both really fell short at the Azoris. The bed was very hard and I could feel the springs pressing up against my ribs, good pillows and a clean room though. I didn't get a good night's rest due to the bed being so uncomfortable. When it comes to a shower, a good hotel should always have a nicer shower than what I have at home, which is not a high bar. The shower was a bathtub with a wall head that was too low. The temperature was not consistent and varied between too hot and too cold. The lighting was really bad in the bathroom with one yellow ceiling light and then a fluorescent tube above the mirror, but thankfully I don't wear makeup. The staff was very nice and spoke English. The included breakfast was great with all the allergens and ingredients clearly labelled. I had no trouble finding plenty of vegan items like beans, mushrooms, breads, porridge with soy milk and even soy milk for the coffee. Downside is the room did not have a coffee machine, only a hot water kettle with some tea.
