AZZ Merida Medea Hotel

AZZ was a nice hotel. Modern and clean. Our room was spacious, got everything we needed. One downside though was the breakfast. Coffee machine were all out of order. Food options minimal, cold cuts seemed stale. Whole breakfast experience was undesirable even if it's complementary, let alone we had to pay €14 per person. One star deducted.

The place is perfectly fine, it just needs a little more focus on service, the place has a lot of potential. Other reviews commented on the bed comfort and it's true they are not four star beds... Breakfast was pretty poor, but was expected from other reviews. On a good note, pool is a nice area,but no place to get a drink or a snack. You have to walk back to the main hotel and hope someone is there to serve you. Just needs an overhaul as other reviewers have stated. Maybe staff need to get paid more.

An absolute nightmare! We stayed over the weekend to attend the family wedding and it was definitely not a 4-star hotel experience. The triple room we got was super hot, the aircon was not working properly and after bringing it up to the attention of the receptionist, we’ve been told to turn the thermostat on max cooling (which we did and still no cool air was coming) and in general the room may be south facing hence the heat (seriously?!). In general, the aircon in the hotel was very questionable, and the wedding venue felt like there was no aircon at all. Just to note, the outside temperatures were reaching 36 Celsius degrees. When we woke up in the morning, the smell from the drains was unbearable. We reported that to the reception and they sent someone to spray the room and…to plug the sinks and bath! The next morning the odour came back again. No apologies or further action was taken, including knocking down the bill, which we think was more than fair. The hairdryer in the bathroom was also sticky sand dusty which we haven’t reported to the reception as we were simply tired of being not listened to. The buffet breakfast is charged separately at extortionate rate of €14 pp (no discount for children meaning my son had a bowl of cereals for €14!). The buffet is a joke: some tired eggs, questionable bacon and poor selection of cheese/ham. The juice was not fresh, and if you plan to have a lie in and a late breakfast, you’ll end up drinking your coffee from a cereal bowl, because they’re run out of coffee cups. I was also surprised with the charge for our room (€134 per night), because the online rates are in the region of €80-90/night. Meaning our one night stay with breakfast for 3 totalled to appalling amount of €176. Just to clarify our booking was not via 3rd party company, but it was done directly in the hotel by the groom a couple of months before our arrival. To sum up, a very disappointing stay, not helpful staff and definitely not a 4-star experience.
