Fantastic hotel - everywhere was very clean and well maintained. Rooms were lovely. The breakfast was amazing - fabulous choice and the service especially from Jeanette was fantastic. There was a great attention to detail. All the staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Fantastic location - short walk to the Old Town. Tram stop virtually outside. Hopefully we will return to Basel and we'll definitely stay here again.
Great hotel! Had standard Switzerland style electrical outlets, no USB available. We had a very good size room. The blinds were on an automated system to close around 3 PM, but you can re-open them. Best part - it’s right across the street from where you can catch the tram!
Beware summer travelers— there IS NO AIR-CONDITIONING! Have you ever hiked and explored in 90 degree weather and thought it would be nice to come back and relax/sleep for the evening in a cool, air-conditioned room? We did. Which is why we booked the Basel Marriott. Let me assure you, there is no air conditioning. How do I know? We have been here 2 days and have moved and schlepped our heavy bags into no less than 4+ different guest rooms on different floors (right now we’re in one of their largest suites!) … there is no A/C. What there is, is a tepid, warm, vaguely humid air that wafts down ever so gently from the one air vent in the ceiling. Nightmare. Fine if you don’t mind sleeping hot and waking in pools of sweat. (And don’t let the lobby/M Club fool you…there is no functioning A/C in any guest room!). But, definitely spend time there for a refreshing break from the warm, humid air in your room, which is what we did. The staff has been extremely kind and accommodating; but there is only so much they can do. They can’t materialize air conditioning. Since having A/C (which we realize is very difficult to find in most of Europe) was the one and ONLY reason we booked the Basel Marriott, this hotel couldn’t have been a bigger failure for our family.
