Good Hotel, Excellent Guest Service Support I stayed at the Beacon Hotel for two nights, booked with airline miles. Arrived early and was able to check in and got to our room without any issue. Room was clean, spacious, beds were good and AC was working well. The bathroom was clean and water temperature and pressure were good. Hotel is a little dated - yes - maybe not quite a 4-star hotel but a good 3-star hotel. Location is about a 7-10 minute walk from nearest Metro stop. Office district restaurants/retail is a few minutes away and neighborhood shops, restaurants and cafes are about 10 minutes walk northeast on RI Avenue. We left a valuable item behind in the room safe. When I called the hotel the next day, housekeeping *cheerfully* retrieved the item, brought it to the front desk/lost and found and I was easily able to coordinate with the hotel staff for a FedEx pickup. They placed the item in a package and called me immediately when there was a problem with the pickup. They even printed out the FedEx label. As a result, my relative had his item back the next day in time for his next trip. Kudos to the staff for being so understanding, accommodating and helpful - excellent guest service! Thank you! I would stay here again and recommend to anyone.
The Beacon Hotel offers a decent-sized room and a great location in DC — a solid choice if you score a good discount, as we did through Booking.com. However, a hefty $400+ incidental hold on arrival felt excessive, especially considering the overall experience. Service was functional — smiles were hit and miss. The hotel feels dated, with few modern touches. Basic amenities were oddly missing: no fridge in the room (though one was eventually delivered after request), and no facilities for boiling water — not even a kettle. That said, an iron and board were available, so practicality wasn’t entirely overlooked. Room servicing also needed multiple reminders, which was disappointing. For a property in this price bracket, you’d expect more attention to guest comfort and fewer follow-ups needed to meet basic expectations of a 4 star hotel. The room key demagnetised about 4 times. All in all, the Beacon has location and room size going for it, but falls short on warmth, upkeep, and convenience. Would recommend only if you’re prioritizing space and can grab a strong deal — and don’t mind chasing for the details. It is a 3 star hotel with limited 4 star aspirations. Ps.: the internet connection was shockingly bad. Slow with constant drop outs, so if you’re planning on doing some online work involving regular zoom meetings or a bit of Netflix and chill, you’ve better make your own arrangements.
Overall a great hotel that’s affordable for walking around DC. I would say it’s the furthest out from the national mall, monuments, white house, and smithsonian you’d want to be if walking. So it’s a walkabout hotel so long as you prepare for rain and humidity if visiting in Spring & Summer and are able bodied for 10,000+ steps a day or more. Hotel Building felt safe and quiet. Rooms small but nice! Older hotel but old doesn’t bother me, as long as the rooms were clean which they were. The restaurant however was absolutely atrocious. That brought the overall score of this place down as well as signs of age in places they should update. Overall, a decent stay and would book again just not eat there.
