Ideal place if you're looking for a high standard and luxury hotel in Kinshasa
It's interesting looking at earlier reviews. They were all positive! But more recent reviews have been less kind. So, maybe they need to address some issues. It's certainly in a great location. Gare Central is as central as it gets (not that any trains run from the station) The building is beautiful and well set out. On my several visits, accompanying a guest, but not staying at the hotel, I found the staff extremely welcoming. But that was in 2015. They blotted their copy books by offering a protected and endangered species as a main course, on request. Not really something to impress the environmentally friendly development worker! They apologised and said it had been an mistake. So, let's put that in the past. I and my friends were greeted with a mocktail and the uniformed doorman chatted easily in English, said he was self taught. Security were a bit strict about children wandering. Sound proofing, loud noises, impolite bar staff - this is all normal in the DRC. There isn't really an understanding of high standards. Anyway, despite all Kinshasa hotels being overpriced. I like the place.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Kinshasa especially if you are looking for a secure place to stay. I have never had such a bad hotel experience in my life. I have been travelling to Kinshasa for the past 5 years regularly and I have stayed in various hotels and this hotel is easily the worst I have stayed in Kinshasa. Someone tried to come in my room at 10pm without a room key and an employee of the hotel actually opened the door of my room to that person without even checking if it was the right room. Fortunately I was there and the person ran away. When I called the reception to complain, they did not even seem to care that it was a major security breach from their part. They sent the employee & the night manager later to apologise and that was it. The next day I told a guy at the reception that I needed to meet the director to complain and he just ignored me. I was talking to him and he just told me he was busy. I had a chat with the guest relations manager and nothing was done. It seems they did not want me to meet with the director as they knew they would all get in trouble. For the price that you pay for this hotel, you would expect a much better service but all they care about is their money
