Beechtree Motel

Our stay at Beechtree Motel was so good, I really wanted to leave a review. My daughter and I stopped for the night in Taupo on our Auckland to Wellington trip, and it was by far the best motel experience of the 30+ times I've stopped in Taupo. Very well designed, super comfortable beds, clean, great bathroom - and a spa bath! Very friendly team, lots of parking, handy to town. Definitely give it a shot!

Booked and paid in advance, but when we arrived just after 8pm, the reception was already closed and we had no way of getting in. We tried calling multiple times but couldn’t reach anyone, and ended up stuck in the car with a tired toddler — not an ideal start to our stay. Thankfully, a lovely guest staying at the property knew to push the emergency button, which brought someone down to help us. It would be really helpful to have clear instructions either on the website or posted outside reception for late arrivals. That said, the room itself is clean and comfortable — we’re very happy with it overall.

Manager was rude & unaccomodating when we arrived from our transportation before 3pm. He would not allow access to any rooms before 3pm even when the sign outside said there were vacancies. Our bags had to be left out in an open reception area - not even behind the counter. The motel is located too far from the town centre for those without a car and the only restaurant in close vicinity is a Chinese take away. TV reception was terrible. Advertised bar b q was filthy & rusty with no gas bottle - totally unusable.
