Blue Moon Resort

We stayed 5 days. The service was extraordinary. Everyone was friendly and kind. They tried their best to make us feel comfortable and like at home. Especially Ali was very helpful at any time. The food was delicious. The room was clean and well air-conditioned. The hotel has a private access to the sea. The only disadvantage is the location. It’s around 1,5 hours far from the airport and 1 hour far from Stone Town. Nevertheless, highly recommended. Thanks a lot :)

We were excited to visit Zanzibar but this resort was far under our expectations. When we arrived we were informed that it had only reopened 2 weeks ago due to renovation, and they had not finished. During our stay they were very loud construction near the dining area and pool the whole day, even into the evening some days. We paid for massages and the construction noise of hammering was loud the entire time. The second day they trenched the entire beach making it unsafe and unusable to install electrical to the construction area. As well as the power went out multiple times leaving us in the dark and unable to get into our rooms. The service staff were lovely however the food took over an hour to come to the table. And drinks took 30-40 minutes each time. The food was good and the drinks were good DEPENDING on the bartender on shift. The worst part of our stay was seeing the monkey tied up to tree and posts within the resort. Seems to be the owners pet monkey and lives tied up within the resort. Was horribly sad to see after being on a week long safari seeing wild animals. We also had to check our bills daily and make adjustments to drinks and food that were charged twice or we never had. Overall this resort could be amazing, but it’s far from that currently with the way the owners run the place and the slow service. Our stay was truly disappointing. I did contact our travel company that recommended them and informed them not to refer anyone else to this resort due to animal abuse and poor service.

Terrible experience – do not book this hotel! Blue Moon Resort was one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, the staff were cold and unwelcoming. The receptionist just asked for our passports and payment – no greeting, no hospitality. And no welcome drink, even though all the other guests got one. We were supposed to get some money back for our payment with cash, but he never brought it. When we finally got hold of him four days into our stay, he laughed and then went to get the money. We waited over an hour for our room, and while waiting for lunch, the food also took more than an hour. When I asked for a new soft drink because mine got warm during the wait, they said it would cost extra. Our private pool area was dirty and damaged. There was no table, and it took three days to get one. The bathroom had a broken light and a cracked mirror. The food not specielt. Meals took 1–2 hours to arrive, portions were tiny, and each meal cost $35 – without water. Only one soft drink was included. I was even served raw chicken on the first night. Breakfast was no better – bad coffee, plain eggs, and cheap bread with mashed avocado. The hotel is very worn down. The pier is falling apart, the pool is dirty, and even the pool table is broken. There were exposed wires in the restaurant, and shockingly, a monkey tied to a tree – clear animal abuse. Most of the staff were rude and uninterested, except for one kind waiter who was very helpful. There were no activities at the hotel. Our room was not cleaned unless we frequently reminded the staff about it. Overall, this place was a huge disappointment and not worth the money.
