Review: A Luxurious Retreat at Borgo dei Conti My friends and I stayed at Borgo dei Conti after arriving in Florence, and it was the perfect countryside escape. Nestled in the scenic hills of Umbria, this beautifully renovated five-star Tuscan villa is about two hours from Florence and roughly an hour from the Montepulciano side of Tuscany. Though a bit off the beaten path, its secluded location added to the charm and tranquility of our stay. The arrival alone set the tone — a long, dramatic driveway leads up to a majestic hilltop property with a stunning landscaped circle welcoming you to the main building. The villa has clearly undergone a recent renovation, with luxurious fixtures, modern decor, and a tasteful blend of historical elegance and contemporary comfort. The front desk staff were incredibly thoughtful and made check-in seamless and warm. Our rooms were spacious, beautifully designed, and well-appointed with premium finishes. If I had to nitpick, the beds were a bit firm compared to other luxury hotels, and while the air conditioning worked well, it oddly left my throat dry — something I didn’t experience elsewhere on the trip. Still, the bathrooms were a highlight: stylishly designed with rainfall showers, bidets, and upscale amenities. Breakfast at the main restaurant was delightful. The staff were attentive and detail-oriented, and the food was fresh and delicious. I particularly loved the cow’s milk yogurt paired with honey from their own beehives, and the omelets were perfectly cooked. The coffee service was top-notch, with rich espressos and Americanos that made mornings a treat, even without a full buffet. The pool area was equally lovely, with a relaxed ambiance and excellent poolside dining. We enjoyed everything from flatbread pizzas to fresh salads, grilled vegetables, and perfectly cooked steaks — all flavorful and satisfying. Overall, Borgo dei Conti served as a wonderful home base for our five-day stay in Umbria. My only wish is that it were located a bit more centrally for easier access to both Umbria and Tuscany, but that minor tradeoff was well worth it for the serene setting and top-notch experience. Highly recommend for anyone looking to unwind in Italian countryside luxury.

Stunning grounds but a little isolated. The spa and garden suite room were beautiful. Definitely room for improvement in regards to the service and restaurants. Emailed the team 3 weeks in advance about wanting to do a wine tasting, but they only booked everything the night before we planned to go. Had a tasting at 12 and one at 4pm, but had to pay for the car service for the entire day ($600). Asked if there was another vineyard to see and were told it wasn’t possible, so we just sat at the first winery for 3 hours paying for a driver. The restaurant food was great, but was advertised as a casual option. It was much more expensive and fancy than expected. They said online and during the tour it was a pizza place, but there was no pizza on menu. Enjoyed our stay, but as mentioned plenty of room to improve for the price of the resort. Emailed them last week expressing concerns and never got a response which was disappointing. Would be great for families or people who just want to stay at the resort.

The castle is beautifully renovated and the SPA is beautiful but there is a room for improvement for overall services: on the website our room was supposed to have a soaking tub but in reality it did not; our room was not in the castle building so it was looking much simplier vs images; the wild berries at breakfast had mold and the temp in the room was showing as 19C but was closer to 23-25C (very hot at night). The pool is very relaxing and the location is superb to get some silence.
