We had such a memorable stay at the Borgo Sant’ambrogio. The premises are beautiful and simply idyllic. We loved how quiet and peaceful it was, and we also loved how unpretentious and genuine the hotel feels. We stayed in the moraiolo suite, the room was great, very spatious on two levels with courtyard access and beautifully designed. The staff was also very friendly and obliging. We were supposed to have a car rental but weren’t able to in the end because we didn’t know we had to get an international license. Definitely the location would be easier with your own vehicle, but the host was very helpful with organizing taxi trips for us and when taxis were unavailable, they were able to accommodate by having one of their staff drive us to Pienza. The restaurant also was amazing. We actually had the best pasta on our trip there and the terrasse with the views as sunset was beautiful. It was very quiet, it seemed like not a lot of people from the outside come to the restaurant or maybe it was our timing, but so it really felt like a hidden gem. For people with high expectations I would mention that a few details might be missing compared to other 5 stars, like turndown service, luggage valet, vanity kits, bathrobes, more formal reception desk, also the size of the bathroom and shower were quite small considering how big the room was. However we thought the service was great and maybe it is what made the place feel so genuine and natural.
A beautiful cute hotel for one night, but not 5 stars. Pros: the location is beautiful, the views on the landscapes of Tuscany are amazing (but this is not the merit of the hotel) . The hotel territory is well -groomed. Tasty food in a restaurant. Breakfast food is also quite tasty, and a woman who makes coffee is incredibly sweet and friendly. Cons: the most important problem for me is the complete absence of sound insulation between the rooms. Absolutely everything can be heard: from flashing the toilet by someone in another room, to all steps and conversations. Moreover, it is heard as if this happens a meter from you. I have never met such bad sound insulation before in any hotel, especially five stars. The hotel has the rules that you need to behave quietly at night (probably they are aware of the problem of course), but not all guests are worried about it, so the night was extremely sleepless. I think that the hotel management could take care of the noise level at least somehow and put thick fluffy carpets in the rooms so that at least the steps of other guests, who live above you, were not heard so loudly. And more little details as dirty plate with food (peel from a banana and fruit remains) near the pool; the absence of robes in the rooms, a flowing shower with a broken switch between a small and tropical shower. Overall it's a lovely place for a romantic stay, with great nature around, but don't expect 5 stars. If you have problems with sleep, wake up from the noise very easily, than I don't recommend to stay more than for one night, otherwise you will be exhausted.
The property itself is truly beautiful, with excellent views and a very peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. Our room was spacious and comfortable, Restaurant was good. the restaurant staff were also polite and courteous. However, we were disappointed by the service from some of the other staff, particularly at reception. Given that this is a five-star hotel, we expected a higher standard of hospitality. We were traveling with large suitcases and needed assistance getting to and from our room, especially since the property includes several steps. Not only was help not proactively offered, but when we did request assistance, the staff’s response was noticeably cold and unwelcoming. Even when we expressed our thanks for the minimal help we eventually received, the attitude remained dismissive. The staff was especially rude at checkout time, the person at reception during check-in was not rude. For a hotel of this caliber, guest service should be a top priority, and unfortunately, the lack of warmth and professionalism from some of the staff left a negative impression. Also, the bathroom trash was already full when we arrived at the room. The location and beauty surrounding the property more than makes up for the lack of service, however don’t come here expecting a 5-star service.
