We stayed at Margretha for the Dutch Grand Prix F1 race weekend and enjoyed a great stay. The hotel is conveniently located downtown a 20- to 30-minute walk to the track and very close to shops, restaurants, and a grocery store. It is also only one block from the train station and a 5-minute walk to the beach. Our room was fully equipped with a frig, stove, cooking utensils and pans, and coffee maker. While we did not use the stove, it provided a nice option, particularly with the grocery store nearby. The room is fully automated and phone-controlled—lights, AC, shades, door locks. We did have some issues figuring out the towel warmer/dryer in the bathroom. We also seemed to have issues keeping water in the doorless shower that the Europeans seem to prefer (over walled-in Americans). Highly recommend Margretha, particularly if one wants to avoid the monster crowds on the Amsterdam trains on Dutch Grand Prix race weekend. I will say that it is noisy until about midnight on race weekend, but we were forewarned by the owner/manager, and it quieted down quickly.
Only 5 minutes walk from the beach and shopping street. But at night it's impossible to have peace. The rooms are right next to each other, and there's no space to even exit your room if others are exiting theirs at the same time. The stairs are also very dangerous and very tiny, making it impossible to feel safe while going up or down. No soundproofing, and even though the shades on the windows provide some darkness, the sun creeps in through the cracks. When other hotel guests close their door - it's like an earthquake, you'll be woken up. The good thing is , everything is electric, and self check in. No keys, just codes. The room was big enough with all the amenities and even the kitchen. Restaurants are nearby, around the corner.
Disappointing Experience - Lack of Integrity from the hotel I recently stayed at a hotel in with a friend, and we encountered a significant issue with the management's honesty and integrity. We booked separate rooms through different platforms, expecting distinct room sizes and types. Upon arrival, the host informed us that only one room was available, despite knowing about the double booking issue shortly after our reservations were made. He did not inform us in advance, even though he had contacted us to confirm our arrival time. We were left with little choice but to share a room due to the late hour and limited alternatives. Initially, the host offered a 70% refund for the unused room, which we reluctantly accepted. However, during checkout, the front desk staff refused to honor this agreement, falsely claiming that both rooms were occupied. This was not true, as we only used one room. Attempts to resolve the issue were met with resistance and poor communication. The host was unresponsive to calls, and when contacted, responded rudely. This experience revealed a serious lack of transparency and honesty from both the host and the front desk staff. We felt misled and cheated, as we paid for two rooms but only received one. I would advise potential guests to exercise caution when booking at this hotel. The lack of integrity and reliability in handling reservations and refunds is concerning and could lead to significant inconvenience.
