We recently stayed at Tsarevets Hotel in Veliko Tarnovo and, unfortunately, our experience did not fully meet our expectations. The room was spacious and the location is great – right near the main attractions. The hotel also offers convenient parking options, including both outdoor and underground parking. However, there were several issues that made our stay less comfortable. The towels in the room were stained, and there were no hooks or towel racks in the bathroom – not even a basic hanger, which was quite inconvenient. There was no hairdryer in the room; we had to ask for one at the reception. The shower gel dispenser was completely empty, and I only realized this once I was already in the shower, which was frustrating. Again, we had to go to the reception to ask for a refill. We also found a bug in the room, which was unpleasant. The spa area is very small and, although advertised, massage services were not available during our stay. Breakfast was basic and lacked variety. Overall, while the location and room size were good, the lack of attention to detail and comfort left us disappointed. We hope the management addresses these issues for future guests.
The hotel was a hidden gem, it was quaint nicely furnished, but it was a little dated and could’ve used a few upgrades. My major complaint was the black mold in the bathroom and the lack of do not disturb signs. Multiple times housekeeping tried to enter my room so I went and locked the deadbolt but they used the key to still enter, even though I had locked it and asked him not to come in.
Unpleasant Experience – Poor Guest Management We had a confirmed booking via Booking.com in this hotel, but upon arrival, the hotel denied our reservation. When we called, because no one was on the reception and they said we’re trying to call you (not true) and instead of apologizing, a very rude man claimed the reception wasn’t open (despite the listing stating check-in until 11:30 PM) and insisted the booking was “never accepted” (attached the picture of our reservation) and they are not 24h reception (nice welcoming, dude) Eventually, they moved us to other hotel (+midnight), Concord, for same price. The room there in CONCORD hotel was fine, and the receptionist was polite, but clearly following unprofessional instructions. Breakfast was mediocre — no fresh fruit and poorly prepared food. This experience was disappointing and frustrating. Guests deserve better treatment and honesty, especially when traveling. I hope management reflects on this and improves.
