Had an afternoon tea yesterday. A Christmas present from the family. I am Gluten free and they presented a really nice tea with bread that didn't taste like cardboard and scones you could eat and not as hard as rocks. Cakes were pretty good too. Congratulations we will come again soon.

Beautiful place, room was amazing and so comfortable. I felt so relaxed. I couldn’t fault this place, the bathroom was lovely the room was huge with beautiful view . The grounds stunning and the staff very helpful. The pool is good enough for a decent swim and the gym equipment for a decent workout. I will definitely be returning, I didn’t want to leave !

Disappointed and Saddened by What Could Have Been an Amazing Stay The surroundings, grounds, and views are absolutely stunning — no doubt about it. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. I don’t think I’ve ever left a stay feeling this let down or angry. Here’s my honest experience: First Impressions Matter On arrival, we were greeted not by beauty, but by a burnt-out cooker and broken gym equipment left openly in view. Such a shame for a location that could be breathtaking. Reception Experience The receptionist set the wrong tone immediately. A smile costs nothing, yet it felt like we were an inconvenience. In hospitality, you are part of the guest’s experience — if you don’t love your role, it really shows. The Rooms At first glance, the walk to the room gave an exciting glimpse into the site’s beautiful past — you could feel the history. But the charm quickly faded. • The room was unbearably hot and stuffy, with only one small window you could actually open — even though the room was lined with windows taped shut. • The shower looked luxurious but roared like a road drill the second you turned it on, leaving you feeling guilty for disturbing other guests. • The grand bed squeaked and groaned loudly with every small movement. A simple tightening job would make a world of difference. • Tea and coffee were rationed — just enough milk for one drink each, in a room costing £160 a night! Overall Care The whole site, from the bar to the grounds to the maintenance of the rooms, feels abandoned. This isn’t about money — it’s about care, love, and pride in the property, and sadly, that’s missing here. Other Issues Even small touches were missed — like a reception phone so cheap and flimsy it fell to the floor just trying to use it. Final Thoughts I’m honestly heartbroken. We work hard for our money and it feels wasted. Visit for the day to appreciate the beautiful buildings and views, but sadly, I cannot recommend staying overnight unless you truly don’t mind being disappointed. The pool not as advertised STONE COLD! Just terrible experience Travel Lodge has higher standards and that’s sad…. Give me the hotel I’ll make this a really welcoming destination once again ITS NOT HARD
