We had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. Everything was clean, cozy, and comfortable. The hotel is located outside the city center, which actually makes it a peaceful and relaxing place to stay — away from the noise and crowds. We were traveling without a car, so I can’t comment on parking, but the rooms with balconies are a highlight. Ours faced the inner courtyard and pool, which was lovely. The beds were very comfortable, and the free self-service bar on the floor was a really nice touch. The only downside was that smoking is allowed on the balconies. As non-smokers, the smell of cigarette smoke coming into the room — especially at night and early in the morning — was unpleasant. Other than that, everything was great. We would definitely stay here again!
We stayed at the Bryggen Guldsmeden in early August, in a room with a balcony. The room was small but very well furnished, with a four poster bed, shower room and separate wc. It was quiet and though there is no air conditioning, there’s a ceiling fan that’s very effective and, of course, a door to the balcony. We found it to be perfect for us. The pool was nice, though a bit crowded during the day, and we enjoyed using the sauna and steam room. The hotel has lots of nice eco touches and I want to say a big thanks to the English waiter/ bar manager, who was great and very good at his job - his team make a mean margarita! Thank you for making the stay so nice! We would stay again. Its location is just outside the old centre but just a couple of stops on the ridiculously efficient metro gets you wherever you need to be. Great city, worth a visit!
We stayed here recently with our dog and really appreciated that the hotel is dog-friendly. The reception staff were welcoming, and the garden service was friendly — we enjoyed having fries and a beer outside. Unfortunately, the overall experience did not meet expectations for the price category. Cleanliness was lacking: on arrival there were breadcrumbs in the room, and the lounge cushion was dusty. The room was never properly cleaned during our stay — only the wet bath rug was replaced and the bin emptied. The bathroom floor mat quickly became soaking wet due to water leaking from the shower. The facilities were disappointing for this price range: no minibar or fridge in the room to cool down some water, no mugs and no kettle or coffee maker. The shared coffee machine and fridge on the floor were messy and they only had paper cups and the fridge contained only sweet soft drinks, no water (only on the first day). Noise was an issue, especially from the inner garden in the evenings and from other rooms at night. The bed quality was very poor: the slatted frame had been collapsed (we had to rearrange the wooden parts), the mattress offered little support, and we slept badly as a result. (Ironically the hotel advertises a “pillow menu” while failing to provide proper beds.) In short: friendly staff and dog-friendly atmosphere, but major improvements are needed in cleanliness, facilities, and comfort.
