I'm surprised that this doesn't get 5* ratings on every front. This resort is certainly luxurious and is maintained at such a high standard. The beach is pristine and they have a water buffalo that helps them clean up every morning! The pool is always spotless. We got a private plunge pool room which is what we would recommend - very spacious, you wake up to the view of the sea. Extremely clean and has all the amenities. The food is also so delicious and we did not get bored of the seafood! The service was impeccable - everyone is so sincerely happy to have you there and help. Snorkelling wasn't great but that depends on the wind direction. Short 20min boat ride away from the jetty. Unforgettable. Note: - just wear DEET to protect against sandflies and mosquitos and that was sufficient for us.
Peaceful place to stay to enjoy the rainforest vibes with friendly staff. We received gifts from the host everyday. That was nice ! We had few issues though: -First issue: the laundry service. It was expensive and it was not honored on time.We got the laundry back the next day at 11:00 pm because they sent the laundry washed in the mainland. They just give only 10% discount for being late. Advice: don't use their laundry service. -2nd issue, we couldn't sleep the last night because we heard loud noise.
We were forced to pay an additional €700 under threat for our children, even though the hotel’s own terms and conditions clearly allow children under 11 years old to stay for free in their parents’ room. On top of this, our so-called “superior” room only had one bed for four people – a disastrous experience for €2,000! We booked 5 nights via Agoda for 2 adults, as we always do during our travels, with our two children (aged 5 and 8) sharing the same room with us. In Asia, this has never been an issue, even in high-end hotels we regularly stay at. We have never been treated this way, especially not in Malaysia. From the moment we arrived at the jetty to board the boat to the hotel, we were met with reproaches about our reservation being only for 2 people. We immediately offered to pay for an extra bed for our children, but this was refused. The manager, Carl, was disagreeable on the phone and refused to let us board the 12:30 boat unless we paid €900 (≈MYR 4,200) on the spot for a “superior” room. After negotiation, he reduced it to MYR 3,400 (≈€680). He justified this extra charge by claiming we would be “4 people for breakfast and on the boat,” even though our children are only 5 and 8 years old. This felt completely abusive. We would like to point out that the hotel’s own terms and conditions clearly allow children under 11 years old to stay for free in their parents’ room. We fully complied with these terms and conditions, and our attempt to pay only for what was necessary should have been accepted, yet we were pressured to pay an excessive amount. We even offered to cancel and get a refund, but he refused. Under pressure, we had no choice but to pay and wait for the next boat at 4:30 pm. The worst part came upon arrival at the resort. Although we had booked a superior 70 m² room, perfectly adequate for the four of us, we were placed in a room of similar size but with only one bed for four people, many unnecessary stairs, and a useless living room – extremely inconvenient for a family with young children. We tried multiple times to contact Mr. Carl for clarification, without success. Two reception staff offered us another room, but it was similar to the first. The hotel already offers very few activities, and when we wanted to use the Hobie Cat, it turned out to be broken. Overall, this experience is far from the standards expected of a 5-star hotel. I would like to add that apart from the manager – who, in my opinion, has no place in such a hotel – the rest of the staff were charming and pleasant.
