An excellent B & B with a lovely room and comfortable bed. Great breakfasts with plenty of choice. Ideally situated for Padstow. One of the best B & B's we have stayed in and I would highly recommend it.

The WORSE experience we have ever had – drove 5 hours to be told the owner had cancelled our booking. We booked to stay at the Cally Croft for 2 nights on 19 and 20 August 2020. We were travelling from London, so it was a 5.5-hour journey by car. We received confirmation of the booking on 6 August and the money for our stay came out of our bank account on the same day, however upon arrival we were met by the owner to be told that she had cancelled our booking the week before. We did NOT receive any notification whatsoever that the booking had been cancelled; no phone call was made to tell us about the cancellation, nor did we receive any email notification of the cancellation. The owner was incredibly rude; when we asked her to show us proof of the cancellation, she spent around 10 minutes inside while we waited outside for her to bring her laptop to us. She then showed us a document which stated that the money had been refunded (in fact, at that point it had not been refunded as we checked our online banking while we were there), however it DID NOT show when the cancellation was made and most crucially it did not prove that we had received any notification of the cancellation. We were incredibly upset having driven over 5 hours to reach the guesthouse and being told we would have to look to stay elsewhere. The owner was very hostile and told us that we should have called her prior to arriving to confirm the booking was still going ahead. We were outraged at this point as she also had the audacity to say that perhaps our email account wasn’t working, and it was our fault that we’d not received the notification. Worse still, she told us that she did not care about any negative reviews from us because her business was closing anyway. She then told us that she had cancer and was going to be undergoing an operation. When we said we were sorry to hear that but it did not excuse the fact that she has caused us a lot of distress and a wasted journey, she told us we weren’t sorry about her operation and contacted her daughter who was down the road. Her daughter and another woman came to the guesthouse and told us to get in our cars and go home. They were swearing at us and making rude hand gestures as we left. This is the worse experience we have ever had; the owner’s behaviour was disgusting and we are appalled to have been treated like this especially at a time when COVID-19 means that people are having to be more cautious when travelling and planning staycations. We would be very reluctant to book directly with a guest house in future and for obvious reasons we would urge people NOT to book Cally Croft unless you want a wasted journey and abuse from the owner.
