Cally Palace Hotel & Golf Course

Lovely hotel and the bedrooms were really big and spotless. Had one room with a bath in and another with shower and toilet off the bedroom area. Staff in dining room and bar very friendly and helpful . Reception staff didn't really have any conversation apart from telling you where your room was. Food was good but a bit on the expensive side as were the drinks. It's dog friendly which is good for those of us with dogs and they got plenty of attention from staff. There are plenty of areas to exercise them.

Great hotel, we liked the "old style" character of this hotel, its got it in bucket loads! Its up a long driveway outside the village, but we knew that before we booked. We had a stunning deluxe room overlooking the grounds. There's a beautiful lounge and restaurant, nice bar/conservatory. It's got a golf course, as well as 2 putting greens for guests and a decent pool area. Inside there's a pool table, snooker table and table tennis table, good for after dinner fun. We were on a DBB deal, breakfast was good - usual buffet style, & good selection for dinner, our choices were good - except for the chips (both nights!!). Special mention must go to Dave (barman) Barry (restaurant) and Annie (reception) who all went above & beyond to make our stay excellent. We've already decided to book again soon, and hubby will take his clubs and play golf. Looking forward to it, highly recommend.

Avoid if you can! I was so disappointed with this stay, as the pictures on their website are gorgeous! • None of the bedrooms have fire doors, and there is an inch gap below the door. • Very old bar of soap left in our shower (pictured). • Spa facilities were dirty. The floor around the pool was grubby, there was debris in the bottom of the pool, and the sauna was out of order, but we were never notified about this on arrival. • The balcony felt very loose and unsafe, and there was a LOT of spider webs and old dead bugs covering the corners of the balcony. • The food was abysmal. I am in NO way picky, but the 'triple cooked chips' were yellowy white and still a little frozen. The breakfast was on par with the dinner, rubbery eggs, and genuinely just not nice. • The chairs in the dining room were stained, whether this was with food or something else. Cally Palace is in a beautiful location and honestly, if this hotel was rated as a 2*, I wouldn't have been as disappointed as I was but to claim they're as highly rated as they are, I don't believe. Either they were, and they've completely fallen off, or this hotel has been left to deteriorate. I never usually write such negative reviews, but I don't want others to be as disappointed as we were.
