Beautiful hotel, lovely stay — but food and a few details need attention We recently stayed at Grand Hotel Cannigione and overall had a very pleasant experience. The hotel is beautiful, stylish, and spotless. Our room was spacious with a very comfortable bed and lovely linens. The bathroom was modern, though the extractor fan wasn’t very effective — it got very steamy after showers with no proper air circulation. One small but noticeable omission: there was no tissue box in the room, which you’d expect in a hotel of this standard. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the breakfast buffet had a great selection (though some bananas would’ve been nice!). Where the experience could improve is the food and beverage side. Service was great, but food quality and presentation need a rethink. For example, a burger came with potato crisps instead of fries, which was… confusing. The à la carte breakfast menu is also quite pricey — €10 for a glass of orange juice feels excessive. In the gym, there’s no water fountain, which seems designed to push guests toward buying bottled water — not ideal when you’re mid-workout. On the bright side, I really enjoyed the lasagna, but other dishes were less consistent. The poke bowls were heavy on dark rice that tasted undercooked, and my partner ordered the Caesar salad three times — it came soaking wet with water from the washed lettuce each time. That said, the pool area is lovely, and we enjoyed our stay overall. With a few tweaks — especially to the food and some finer in-room details — this hotel could really shine.
Definitely not a 5-star hotel. This was my second visit to this hotel. I mostly returned because of the floating dock they have on the water. It’s divine. However, they failed to tell me the dock was not available this year as it needs to be repaired - even when I asked to reserve it a week in advance via email and they confirmed it knowing it wasn’t in operation. Then they said they changed my reservation for myself and clients to the beach area - when we showed up he had no such reservation for us. The staff was incredible cold and unfriendly to all of us throughout the stay. I made the reservation for myself and a group of clients and they didn’t even acknowledge this, but they also referred to everything under my husband’s name - and he had nothing to do with anything. I was one who made the reservation and payment. The pool side service was lacking - there were several times we had to go to the bar ourselves to get drinks. The rooms are fine. Just fine. On it’s best day, it might be a 4-star hotel. We had come from other 5-star hotels in Sardegna which were absolutely wonderful and with friendly staff. This was nothing like those actual 5-star experiences. I’ll not be going back or sending clients in the future.
It is crazy that this hotel claims to be 5 star. Acts more like a 3 star hotel at best. We stayed here for part of our honeymoon and they never even acknowledged our honeymoon, whereas every other hotel did. Service is poor. The breakfast is horrendous - cold eggs, instant coffee, flies on all of the pastries and fruit since they are uncovered. The maid service never restocked any toiletries unless specifically asked. There is a shuttle to the beach which is somewhat inconvenient and the food service at the beach takes forever. By the time food arrives from the hotel it’s cold. Sea deck was closed for the season without any notice. Save your money and stay elsewhere! Will not be returning.
