Canopy by Hilton Memphis Downtown

First time in Memphis and absolutely loved it. I was on the 2nd floor room 221 and was greeted by someone from cleaning staff who was so wonderful. When I told her it was my first time in Memphis, she said come over here and give me a hug. That is the warmest welcome I’ve ever had in a city and it set the tone for a great evening before I headed back to Virginia the next morning. The room was very clean and comfy. I will definitely be staying here again next time. The location was perfect for all the places we wanted to go and we chose to do parking nearby to save money as opposed to the valet option.

The night before Memphis I stayed at the Canopy by Hilton in Austin, my expectations were high for Memphis. I arrived fairly late, around 10pm. One staff member was speaking to the others at the desk, holding her phone, big drink and other items talking about how she was leaving work instead of quietly just leaving .. inane chatter while I was waiting. Take care of guests checking in. The hand sanitizer, dirty floor and chatter gave me more of a motel 6 vibe. The aesthetic is nice but needs attention. Lose the large hand sanitizer thing at the front desk, tidy it up and be cognizant of guests. On the bright side, the valet was great .. the inside of the property should mirror what they do at the valet. I will not stay here again.

This hotel is fine, not sure why it's 4 stars though. The amenities aren't special. They seem short staffed. They missed turndown service one day. And the service at the on-site restaurant, Curfew, was slow. The rooms themselves are fine and I liked the charcoal-based cleansers. It had a convenient desk, great for a business traveler. However, if I had come with my family, I would have missed having dresser drawers or a microwave. The location is great though - just across the Peabody and its shops and duck show, and walking distance to everything in downtown. Lots to eat nearby and a few blocks from Beale.
