Caravan Serai

About 40 min drive from the RAK airport. It looks like an abandoned area, but inside it is like an oasis. Kind staff and very helpful. Old Morrocan style and architecture, authentic. Wonderful Hamam. Tasty food. Cats and turtles, lots of plants... It's like a paradise to relax. Each room has its own bathroom and air conditioning. Living room area and a balcony. There is the biggest cactus I have ever seen in my life, near the swimming pool.

Location is around 25 minutes from the centre. We got private drivers which costs around £5 on Indrive app. Download it as its cheaper than any taxi around. From the main highway you come off to a dirt track to go through a genuine Morrocan neighbourhood without any tourists around. Don't let this put you off. When you get through the doors of the Riad it becomes tranquil. Breakfast was included with flat breads, cake, yoghurt fruits and tea, coffee and fresh orange juice. Get the eggs how you want them, boiled fried or omelettes. Unlimited mint tea at anytime of the day is also included. We had food at the restaurant on the first night which was pretty good, didn't get a chance to try it again as we had so many other must-trys on our list. Rooms were cleaned and the bed was made daily with supplies topped up. Loved it.

The best hotel I have stayed in. Incredible place with some beautiful features. The food here is first class also and highly authentic. Bread is cooked on site fresh everyday with the chefs once having had a restaurant. Although there is not a huge menu there are only 16 or so rooms and they also do specials you can order for the following day. The drinks selection is great and the mint teas were lovely. Pool was amazing and clean. We had one in our room too. Several rooms have private pools. The location of the hotel might not be ideal for some given it is a taxi ride into the city but these are relatively inexpensive and ordered by the hotel. The area surrounding the hotel also makes the hotel a destination rather than a base to wander around as its in a suburban area. Also one has to embrace the local world at this hotel, with cats, and some insects all integrated into the flora and fauna. The bird song is sensational. This may not be some people ls liking though but for me it embellished the visit. The hotel has a hammam and massage room. Highly recommended. Pedicure and other treatments available too. For me this is somewhere I intend to come back to and it is highly recommended for the more intrepid traveller. Finally the staff are out of this world. Friendly and dutiful and just amazing, really.
