I stayed here with my wife for several nights and I highly recommend it. The building itself is a little architectural jewel (although you could easily say that of half of Mexico City's Historic Centre) and a nice, harmonic blend of contemporary amenities and historic architectural details. It must have been an old manor, with well preserved woodwork, wrought iron railings and thick tezontle masonry walls. The room we stayed at had really high ceilings (over 12' tall) but of average depth and length. The bed was very comfortable and so were the sheets. The staff was always polite and amicable, always eager to help and open to requests. I asked several times for more water bottles for when my wife and I trekked around the city, and they always happily complied, no additional charges. We had our breakfast included and the food was very good, but a little on the bland side flavor wise, so I wish we had the option to choose a spice level. Lastly, the location was incredibly convenient, as we were near adjacent to the zocalo square, and thus very close to the Metropolitan Cathedral, The Templo Mayor Pyramid, the Palacio Nacional, and relatively close to Bellas Artes and the Postal Palace - not to mention there's countless restaurant options in the area. Overall, we stayed at two hotels in that area and both were fantastic. Strong recommend.
A great place to stay near the Zocalo, and close to all the great tourist spots in town. The Metro is very close by and easy to use. We used it to get to Coyoacan and even a quick trip across town. Easy and safe. Get your Smart Card beforehand. It’s cheap. Our first room was excellent, except we were kept awake late on the first night whilst the restaurant above us moved all their furniture around. Haven’t they heard of felt pads under furniture legs? The staff helped us move to another room the next day, and the room had a better view over the small square below, although it didn’t have the extra sitting area and second bedside table that we had in the first room. The extra, separate sitting area was important for my partner to have online client meetings. Like all big cities though, the constant noise was there; especially late at night. The breakfast was one of the best we have had in two years of travelling. Plentiful food and good quality. All the staff were very pleasant, helpful and friendly. Daily housekeeping was excellent.
I liked the walls were of stone. The key to the door is one of those ancient kinds, kind of tricky to lock door. Also, the doors have a bit of an opening even when closed, could hear the restaurant staff very early in the morning from our floor. The hotel is located by a busy street, there are food vendors that gather right in front. Overall, it has charm and is budget friendly.
