Castilla Termal Balneario de Solares

The Castilla Terma Solares is a big hotel with old money vibes. The spaces are big, spacious and charming. Our experience was really pleasant however nothing too special. The hotel part (with the restaurant and breakfast area) is separate from the spa, connected with an elevator. We booked our rooms with spa access and had no problem with the access. As we are not Spanish speakers we did need some time with the staff to explain to us the opening hours of the spa. With the (basic) spa access you can spend unlimited time (during opening hours) in the big indoor pool with various water massage jets. Apart from that you can also book massages and other treatments - we had two massages which were very professional and pleasant. The buffet breakfast was great - a lot of different options to choose from, which included some vegan options as well. The hotel has a paid garage but it also has free parking outside, about 200 m from the hotel. The hotel itself is big and as such has a lot of people all the time which means it's always lively. During our stay there was even a wedding which was very fascinating to see. The hotel is located in Solares which is a bit removed from Santander, however, it's pretty close to the highway and you also have a lot of interesting places around it to visit.

The hotel is a mess. I paid for lunch and passed my credit card and then when checking out, they asked me to pay my lunch again last minute when I was waiting for my taxi. And told me it wasn’t charged which is not true. Rooms are really humid, and they wake you up to clean your room after they already knocked once and wake you up again. Room service is horrible, always arriving late and forgetting your order and charging it and having to go for your order again. Very poorly cooked and not good at all. Air conditioner doesn’t work and you can hear everything for each room. Not satisfied at all, very bad service and room. Hotel too expensive for what it is

ACCESS TO THE SPA WAS DENIED!. Booking.com stated that limited spa access is included. THAT IS NOT TRUE......ONLY POOL ACCESS IS INCLUDED! We rang the night before at point of booking in case we had to book the spa which is common in Espana and were told it was not necessary. The following morning we were denied entry.....very poor service and disappointing especially on last day of vacation. The receptionist agreed it was misinformation! Breakfast was not good...looked like yesterday's food and all the butter and spreads were exposed with numerous guests coughing over them.....ended up having our own avocado on dry toast! We weren't informed of costs associated with having a small chewawa dog stay in the room and were charged an additional €150 deposit and €25 per night.....so dog lovers be aware! God only knows how much a German shepherd might cost! Conclusion.....FEEL RIPPED OFF!
