Spent a week in Caye Caulker. Used Caye Caulker Beach Hôtel as a base. Prices seem generally high for what you can get on this island and I think this place is a good value compared to others! Went for the windowless room, decent bathroom size with a nice shower. A/C in the room makes the nights pleasant. The venue is clean but be aware that there are a some steps to get to rooms. Convenience store on the ground floor is a plus! Terrace offers a great 360 view on island, there are hammocks and sunbeds available. It is well located and within walking distance from most place of interest (taxi boat station, the split, bars, restaurants etc.)
This is one of the cheaper places to stay on the island but don’t let that fool you. The place is fantastic with clean rooms, plenty of hot water, ac that kicks butt and a beautiful rooftop lounging area. If there was any complaint it would be that the size of the room is on the smaller size. Not a factor for me since I spent most of my time outside the room. There are also no elevators so it’s a few steps up to the 4th floor. Checkin is in the downstairs convenience store. Overall very pleased with the hotel and value I received. Location is outstanding.
The room was small, which was fine for two of us not spending much time in there, and the linens were decently clean (some staining), which was also fine. Cold AC and hot water, both great. However: the bathroom smelled terrible, septic, so we couldn't leave the bathroom door open to get daylight in the room - there was no window in the room, only in the bathroom - or to get fresh air, and running the bathroom fan didnt help at all (we bought an air freshener for the room as there was no saving the bathroom); the safe didn't work (dial was broken); there was a large gap under the exterior door so sound traveled easily; there was no elevator so I wouldn't recommend it for people with mobility issues (or lots of luggage, or small kids); the hotel's information card listed fees for lost/damaged items for literally every item in the room, which I've never seen before and it kind of made me hesitant to even touch anything in case it was old and broke and I was charged for it. It was really the smell in the bathroom that knocked this down from an "it's alright" 3-star to a 2-star. Should've read more reviews, apparently it's a common issue. It's relatively cheap, but I'd pay an extra $20/night to stay elsewhere and avoid the smell.
