It was only a one night stay, wish we had a few more! Now, this is not a drive up to the hotel door You make arrangements with staff prior to arrival. This is a town built into a hill, with cave dwellings. So walking to/from the hotel does require some steps. BUT it is so worth it. The rooms are unique, impeccably clean and beds comfortable. Breakfast provided was extensive and wonderful. Staff was super helpful and friendly. And the location has wonderful views and quick access to Ponte Tibetano della Gravina. Matera is a wonderful historic town to spend the day walking and exploring and eating!

Absolutely loved this part of Italy! Stayed in a cute little cave next to the cliff! View was amazing! Staff was so kind! Even tried the couples massage which was very relaxing! Stayed two nights and it made me want to stay forever! Went during January so it felt we had the cliff side all to ourselves self! Shower and Jacuzzi were great in the suite! The breakfast was very good and the coffee was exceptional! Thank you to all who made are stay so welcoming!

This is an absolutely stunning property in a truly unique and special place. Matera itself was incredible - I had seen pictures, but seeing it in real life was an unforgettable experience. Cenobio Hotel is very close to the church and square and is very much like the traditional style of stone buildings throughout Matera. It’s a deconstructed hotel, in the sense that it has rooms and reception spaces that aren’t all joined. I was lucky enough to stay in one of the best rooms they have, with a spa bath, and it was gorgeous. The room was like being in a climate controlled, modern, minimalist cave. I loved this hotel and the service made it even better. The female front desk staff and the male porter I dealt with were warm, friendly, polite, helpful and informative. They helped me with maps, recommendations and advice and were just very kind and sweet. I would recommend a stay if you’re lucky enough to have the chance to get to beautiful Matera.
