I read a lot of reviews before I booked this hotel and also looked up photos of it, so I knew what to expect. Everything was great, we stayed in a gold suite for 3 nights and it was great to just be able to open your door and jump in the pool. All the staff that we met was great as well. We stayed here in late April so it was quiet and not so many people and we also go a great price for the room. It’s great as long as you not expect a modern 5 star hotel in US/EU.
I booked this hotel originally through Agoda and got a nice deal, given it said 5-star hotel I thought it was a steal. It unfortunately is not a 5 star hotel. The resort is aged and you can see it in the facilities and in the rooms. We had outlet plugs that either had a hole behind it or painted different colors. We also could not figure out the hot water for the shower. Our sheets had little rips and pillows were stained. We had a gecko in our room, which I get we’re on an island but we also had a dead roach and on the stairs outside. We tried ordering food and the staff couldn’t communicate with us or answer our questions about the menu. They wouldn’t find someone to be able to help, so it would just be awkward silence and not being able to fully ordered what we wanted. Again, we’re on an island in Thailand - not everyone speaks English. But for a hotel that advertises themselves the way they did, being able to communicate would have been nice. The WiFi - does NOT work. We used our hotspots all night. We only stayed for 1 night and originally were meant to stay for the entire week. We primarily moved because my friend got sick with Zika. We moved to be closer to family staying next door at the Twin Lotus. They wouldn’t refund us anything and offered to put special WiFi in the room for us. They did say if we would have told them about everything they would have fixed it for us. But when you book a property, a 5 star property, you shouldn’t have to tell the hotel to fix all these issues. I should have read more reviews as a lot of people had similar comments. It’s a nice deal through booking or Agoda, but I recommend the Twin Lotus next door instead. Facilities are much more updated, WiFi works, no bugs in the rooms and they even made a special accommodation for us because of the illness.
This is not a 5 star hotel - I would rate it as a 2 star hotel. The hotel is very worn and really needs some refurbishing. The only smiling person at the hotel is an elderly lady that works in the reception - I think she is the manager. The rest of the employees is constantly on their phones. At the pool bar or the egg station you have 3 people standing and looking at their phone at it’s almost like you bother them when you ask for something. We had a Diamond Villa which was full of bugs and everything was taped together with ducktape. At the pool you get fake grass which is great for kids if they fall - But terrible in Thailand where it’s so hot that it nearly melts. Also the water in the pool turns your clothes yellow which is also annoying. All in all I would not recommend this hotel - There is a lot better places in Koh Lanta for these prices.
