Truly stunning Chateau, with lovely staff, food and surrounding countryside. Our room was huge and 800 years old. A very memorable experience. I highly recommend.
Stunning scenery in a beautiful old castle but unfortunately the restaurant service was very disappointing. We had a lovely room, that was dog friendly and our check in lady was great. Super comfy big bed, excellent shower and well looked after by the housekeeping team. The Spa was very odd. No staff in the area, steam room was turned off and no changing room. The dinner in the restaurant had really excellent cooking but the service was pretty bad. Had to constantly top up our own water and wine and the empty glasses and bread were left on the table until was asked for them to be removed. I asked for a dessert wine and was told “it is finished”. Only after speaking to the manager did they bother to seek an alternative bottle. The waitress dropped the bottle of red wine on the table and it was all a bit of a mess. We felt there is very little training happening for service staff at this hotel. Also very disappointing was the lack of local area wines on their wine list. Only pushing the estate they own. Overall very pretty property but it needs a F&B service improvement, and support of more local wineries.
Second time visiting. First time was outstanding. Second time not so much. Turns out restaurant was fully booked out(advised at late notice), and no consultation with hotel patrons until 24hrs previous to advise restaurant was fully booked and unavailable, in addition it was a public holiday with limited options within 20 miles drive away from Chateau - the last thing you want to do when driving all day to get at your destination. Incredibly disingenuous to take booking when restaurant full and not advise until the day prior. Recommended Chateau prioritise hotel patrons first if they wish to dine in, or, advise hotel patrons when booking that restaurant is closed for private function or fully booked and consider booking elsewhere considering no where close to eat. Rather, stay quiet, take your money and advise 24hrs prior to arrival that the restaurant is fully booked,(we deliberately held this from you at booking your room) and nothing we can do. Very disappointing. Extremely disappointing. Money wins out again. Thankfully we had some picnic and charcuterie that we had in on us already to see us through. Additionally, Nik wifi across entire chateau site and rooms and no hot water in shower facilities. Informed staff and they were nonchalant stating it’s hard to manage water in off season! What The?
