Chateau De La Coutanciere

Authentic, quaint, idyllic, quiet and very welcoming. Three nights here were superb. Our host, John, was informative and passionate about the house and more than happy to share its history and reflect on some of recycling from days gone by. For instance, the wood panelling in one of the rooms was produced from doors elsewhere in the château, the diamond cut being an example of excellent craftsmanship. As mentioned in other reviews John was happy to provide us with cutlery and plates so that we could enjoy our own locally bought produce and drinks in the gardens adjoining the pool - a superb setting.

Great place! Feels like going back in time when you enter this chateau. Stayed two nights and our rooms/bathrooms were newly renovated. Perfect spot to use as a base to explore the Loire-valley. Just 30 minutes to Chinon and Saumur, and TONS of great wineries close by. Simple breakfast is served, and dinner (on reservation only, we did not try this). Tranquil gardens and a nice pool area. Picturesque experience. Do remember that it is an old chateau and soundproofing may be an issue if you are sensitive to creaking floors and the sounds of other guests. Will come back next year :)

Rustic charm to the grounds and chateau with nice staff. However our family room at the top of the chateau was a little disappointing as it felt quite tired and basic compared to the photos pictured here. The children loved the Dutch chocolate sprinkles for breakfast.
