Chateau La Chaire

I had dinner in the formal wood-lined dining room last night, comprising a delicious lobster risotto followed by pavlova, washed down with a glass of the excellent house red. Possibly the best meal I've had in my month's stay on the island. I can highly recommend, not only for the food but the professionalism of the staff who presented everything beautifully and with perfect attention to detail.

This is an old tired hotel. There were stains on the bedding and furniture in the room. On raising an issue re the sink being blocked the next morning the receptionist didn’t apologise and merely noted the room number. A real shame. Other issues included no vegetarian options in the evening and served cold cooked breakfast.

Very dated. Dirty carpets. Rotten wooden doors to balconies and rotten bathroom windows. Poor menu choices and only one vegan option. Chef couldn't do any other options. No vegan butter for breakfast. Had emergency plumber interrupt stay and he couldn't fix bath taps.
