Chateau Star River Shaanxi

Hotel is brand new. Beautiful and well thought out. Not sure why there was a 1 star rating. Staff was helpful and pleasant. Extremely clean. Large room and bathroom. AC was not on when we first got there, so the room was hot. That's possibly the only drawback. There is a limited room service menu and 2 restaurants on site. The Chinese/Cantonese cuisine restaurant had good food and great service. They stayed open late for us, since we didn't realize that they close at 9 and got there at 8:30. Gorgeous restaurant with coolctraditional serving ware. It was a bit hard to get to the restaurant from inside the hotel however. There are individual high ceiling private rooms with one table each in the restaurant. A little confusing when you first walk in and didn't see any tables. The "Western style" restaurant opens later and is where breakfast is served. Breakfast was an odd mishmash of Western and Chinese food, buffet style. The hit for my kids were fresh squeezed watermelon juice and egg custards being baked in a machine on site. The location of the hotel is closer to the airport than Xi'an, in a remote part of town that seems to be up and coming. So there is nothing within walking distance to see. But there is a well groomed garden in the atrium area of the hotel, with the restaurant building with a pool in the middle. Sure there is an indoor pool and volleyball court and more, but we were only here a day, so didn't get to explore much of the hotel.

the hotel and breakfast cafe allow smoking....the room is smelly...location is far from town..
