Chief Spa Hotel

It’s a bit dated, but clean and comfortable. The front desk staff are wonderful, and the hot spring is enjoyable. Breakfast was great

Good hotel. Perhaps the best in the vicinity. Well furnished rooms that are clean and well maintained. Dinner served is also of good variety and taste. Owners and staff members were friendly and professional.

Horrible location to stay at. Not sure where these 4-5 star reviews are coming from. Biggest complaint is indoor smoking, Taiwan law stipulates no indoor smoking, including in hotels. Yet throughout the night I could smell heavy cigarette smoke coming through the AC of the hotel room, so clearly there is no separate ventilation for "smoking rooms". Could barely breathe from the smoke at night. Told the hotel lobby staff and was told there is nothing they can do if people smoke in their rooms. Which to me sounds like a huge health and fire safety hazard and defeats the purpose of Taiwan's Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act. Also, would not get their dinner at the hotel, expensive and very plain. Fish was cold and did not look fresh. And lastly the bedroom bedding was dirty and had dried blood stains on it, which the hotel staff adamantly said they wash all bedding/comforters and denied that, even after showing evidence. Only good parts of the hotel are the little hot spring area and early morning guided tour. Overall I would say to avoid this hotel completely but if you're vacationing in this area it's about the only hotel here which is likely why this hotel can get away with so many things.
