City Hotel Berlin East

The room was quite nice. The complex is huge, but the restaurant sells the ice cubes (???), guess is not part of the hotel. It is a lit bit far from the city, but the quality of the room and toilet was great. And comfy beds as well. AC working perfectly as was quite hot weather. Staff was professional and polite. Toiletries were quite good as well and we manage to have a great stay there.

On the whole zero complaints about the hotel itself. The complex is gigantic and much larger than expected, and as such, made finding reception quite difficult. The ‘front’ of the hotel is actually on the other side of the building than you’d expect - I.E. from the local tram stop, the entrance is on the opposite side than the one facing you. However, I’m unsure if we’ve arrived in an ‘offseason’ but everywhere is unnervingly quiet. There are certainly guests, and certainly staff - but we’ve seen next to zero. There is evidence of a much larger renovation taking place - non of the restaurants are open, food services are on pause, etc etc. Rooms are incredibly spacious and larger than expected, just misses the typical amenities like tea/coffee/fridge/kettle. There is however, a self serve bar available in reception that utilises self check out machines! Super handy

Avoid if possible. The location is ok. The hotel facilities are not as advertised. The air-conditioning in the room did not work (from reading the reviews, this seems to be a general problem) and the room was like a sauna. You cannot even bring in outside air because when the window is open, all you hear are ambulances every two minutes. We called reservations the day before the booking to ask for an additional bed, despite this being confirmed, we arrived and there was no extra bed. When we went to speak to reception the initial response lacked any customer service orientation when we were basically told that reservations misinformed me and that because housekeeping had already left for the day, they could not help me. It was only when I told them that they need to find a solution, they told me they would try but couldn’t guarantee anything. They did eventually find me a bed but not without the hassle and just poor overall poor attitude. The call to reservations was recording in case someone from the hotel wants to follow up. Breakfast is basic and not worth the extra expense, better off getting breakfast at a cafe while enjoying Berlin. The restaurant was not open and breakfast was served conference style in the conference room so slightly chaotic.
