City Hotel Shanghai

Good value. Served by 2 metro stations and 5 lines. (Nanjing West Road Station and Shanxi South Road Station) both about 700m or 8 mins walk away. Can reach by line 2 from Pudong or Hong Qiao Airport. Exit 4 then head towards Line 12, then Exit 12 from Nanjing West Road Station. Or take Didi to hotel RMB 14 if got many luggages. Rooms are decent. Some newly renovated although Hotel itself is a little dated. Beds and pillows very comfortable for a good night rest. Shower pressure very good. Aircon and Wifi worked well. Wifi a little weak. Frontdesk friendly staff. Many good eateries & restaurants near hotel. Stayed 6 nights to explore Shanghai. Loved it.

When I arrived near the hotel, it felt like a grand establishment. The entrance featured a beautiful garden, and there were two massive buildings—one for apartments and the other for the hotel where I stayed. The check-in process was quick and efficient. However, the gym and pool were out of service during my visit, which had not been mentioned at the time of booking. To compensate for this, I was upgraded to a better room and offered complimentary breakfast, which more than made up for the inconvenience. Overall, I had an enjoyable stay at City Hotel. The staff I interacted with were courteous, friendly, and very professional, clearly dedicated to their work. I recommend staying in their upgraded Executive Rooms, as they are the most modern and offer great value for the price. I’ll definitely return, as the location is incredibly convenient.

You have two choices: a room that smells like the sewer or a room that smells like an ashtray. I know because I was kindly moved (at my request) from one to the other. For the record, From full on ashtray (and only partially sewer) to “just”still-gag-me sewer). Thanks god I only have 12 more hours in this dump. You get what you pay for, which brings me to the breakfast…it’s a good deal. The gym. it’s chock full of pool bleach smell but aside from that, it’s a decent gym now that they just renovated. ***If you can afford to stay elsewhere, do that instead***If not, the amenities are pretty much the best you’ll get for this price range…still, the stinky (and dirty carpeted) rooms are the main drawback.
