Clarion Hotel Post Gothenburg

Lovely hotel in the converted old post office building. Location very close to Gothenburg mainline station and tram system. Short walk to the main shopping area, cafes, bars, canal, etc. Reception guy welcomed us nicely. Lovely big room with great view of the plaza in front. Nice bathroom. Breakfast was great. We had a meal in the restaurant, which was first class (but pricey). Bar was nice, but beer selection was limited. Overall a great place and well recommended.

The location, the size of the room, breakfast, and the staff were all great! The shower was phenomenal, book a room just for that. The pass to the rooftop heated pool is totally worth it. Traveler's tip, bring your own soap. The dispensers are less than desirable.

Our stay at Clarion Hotel Post was generally nice, but it got off to a rough start. When we arrived, we were told there had been a water leakage and that the hotel was fully booked. We were sent to another hotel for the night, which was fully paid for by Clarion. While we appreciated that the cost was covered, the situation was handled poorly by the receptionist. We were tired from traveling and received no information about the new hotel other than its name. We didn’t know where it was located or what kind of place it was, and to add to the confusion we were right away asked whether we wanted to stay there for the entire trip or just for the night, since rooms at Clarion would become available the next day. This put us in a stressful situation, especially since I was traveling with my mom, who has type 1 diabetes and is quite fragile. We felt we didn’t really have a choice. Luckily, the new hotel wasn’t too far, and we were able to return to Clarion the following day, though it did force us to change our plans. As compensation for the inconvenience, we were offered free access to the pool, which was a nice gesture, but unfortunately we didn’t get the chance to use it during our stay. Once we were back at Clarion, the Twin Superior room we received was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent and definitely one of the highlights of the stay. However, the hallways were noticeably dirty, and the service could be hit or miss. For example, we asked for an extra pillow and were told someone would bring it to the room, but no one ever showed up. Overall, it wasn’t a bad experience, but given how things were handled at the start and the inconsistent service, I’m not sure I’d choose to stay here again. I would probably consider other options next time.
