Conimbriga Hotel do Paço

Great non-profit hotel. The rooms are a bit dated but we would definitely stay here again. Try their wine!

We've stayed in this hotel for a couple of nights with our toddler. The positives: the building, the decor, the bedroom, the atmosphere.. quite pleasant and classy experience (5 stars). On the downside, the restaurant was a disappointment; it hasn't met expectations, the bar staff could have been better; the Spa is public, like so a lot of people joining from the outside and it just makes the experience worse because the spa itself is not so clean, the equipment and overall facilities are not posh;

The hotel is located in a beautiful historic building, which really adds to its charm and character. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, we did have a rather unpleasant experience with one of the receptionists, a more senior member of the front desk team. Our initial room had a strong moldy smell. Her younger colleague was very understanding and told us they could arrange a different room for us the next day, which we thought was a great solution. However, when we followed up the next day (having offered to vacate our room early to make the change easier), we were met with a cold stare and a firm refusal from the more senior receptionist, saying it was a mistake and that no room change would happen. Her tone and attitude were unnecessarily harsh, which left us quite surprised and disappointed. The following day, other colleagues were at the desk and kindly explained that the delay was due to laundry service issues, and the other room wasn’t ready yet. This made total sense and had that been communicated by the more senior receptionist earlier, there wouldn’t have been any issue at all. It’s a real shame because the rest of the team were lovely and professional. We hope this was just an unfortunate exception, because the rest of the staff truly made an effort.
