Unfortunately, I’m only giving two stars because we didn’t have hot water out first night stay. We couldn’t shower, and when we contacted the front desk, they simply said there was a problem with the boiler and that they were working on it. After waiting over two hours, there was still no hot water and no real update—just an apology. I didn’t feel that was good enough for a hotel of this standard. That said, the location is excellent, the restaurant was great, and the room itself was very comfortable (although I do wish it had a bath). Despite the hot water issue, I would consider staying again—but I sincerely hope this kind of problem doesn’t happen next time.

Very average accommodation and restaurant closed for 3 nights in a row. Which also meant breakfast was moved to a small classroom like room. Staff not that worried and you find out on arrival. Better places to stay in Wellington.

We booked a junior suite, the room and corridors were freezing cold on our arrival. The hotel overall, including the room is dated, scruffy and in need of decorating and refurbishment. For nearly $400 per night the room resembled a motel room, basic kitchenette, cheap tea/coffee options, no mini bar. The bathroom had a spa bath, no bubble bath, and the available bottle of soap was screwed down so couldn’t be used in the bath. We booked a table in the restaurant, which was mediocre, the food arrived after 10 minutes of ordering, before the drinks had even arrived. Certainly not a leisurely dining experience. Very basic fish and oven chips cost $40. We went out for the evening and returned to the hotel just after 10pm, finding the bar was closed on a Friday night. We live in Wellington and regularly stay in town, this is by far the worst hotel we have stayed in in comparison to other Wellington city hotels. On checking out I would like to have been able to share my thoughts and was waiting for the “how was your stay” question, unfortunately this wasn’t asked and with minimal communication from the reception staff we left. I would certainly not recommend staying at the Copthorne, there are far better and more inviting places to stay in Wellington.
