My daughter recently had her Wedding service & reception (& evening do) at The Cottons Hotel. The hotel was great, the staff did a fabulous job and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the whole day. The food in particular was absolutely EXCELLENT. The dressing of the room was superb. Couldn't fault the day. Thanks to all at the Cottons Hotel.
My partner and I visited on Saturday 26th July. We both had a full body massage in the spa, my partners massage was absolutely excellent however unfortunately mine was below average - the treatment only lasted 40minutes (the treatment menu stated 50minutes) and the therapists techniques were not on par with a £94 treatment at all, and I was basically stroked for 90% of it which isn’t what I had requested at all. Phoebe at the spa reception was very friendly and helped pick out some goodies for me which was lovely. We spent some time using the outside hot tub afterwards which was absolutely lovely and the pool staff were great however the views of the bins weren’t exactly fitting with the spa vibe. We had dinner in the restaurant that evening and the food was outstanding. The bar vibe was also great and the musician added to that greatly. Our room was mediocre, the walls were scruffy / dirty in places and overall seemed dated, there was also only one mirror with no nearby plugs which meant I had to blow dry my hair by using my phone camera which again isn’t what I’d expect for the amount paid. The bed was very comfortable though and our breakfast the next morning was very delicious. Sadly, the negatives outweighed the positives for us and we couldn’t recommend this to others as we don’t believe the result matches the cost :(
This is a tough place to review. The room was 1 star, while the rest of the hotel deserves 5 stars; for me, it averages out at about 3 stars overall. The staff are great, and so are the lounge, bar, restaurant areas. And the food was super. It looks like a lot of the rooms are great too. Unfortunately ours was not. We had our dog with us, which limits you to a “signature room”. Helpfully, there’s convenient access to a small, enclosed area for dogs (gravel but was handy for us); bowls/treat in the room; and the staff love dogs. Yet, our room felt like it would have been overdue refurbishment a decade ago, and still was. Everything was tired and heavily worn, curtains were stained, tap didn’t work well, desk chair (office type) was stuck at lowest height. We found a used razor blade on the floor (actually, our dog found it but thankfully didn’t hurt himself). The worn-down room was almost exaggerated by the bed linen, towels and robes being top-quality, and the bathroom having White Company products. We were left feeling pretty confused. Maybe they’re leaving the dog-friendly rooms non-refurbished deliberately; if so, they should be open about that; if not, they need to get on with it asap. I’d gladly stay here again in another room type, but not with a dog.
