Very welcoming as soon as you step into the reception and it smelt very clean which is reassuring! Entry is easy too and there is a public car park next to it which is handy. Very central location. Noiser in the day but very quiet at night (our apartment was facing the road). Apartment was so clean and well stocked. Bed was super comfy! Would definitely stay again!
The hotel itself is clean and well-maintained, but unfortunately, the management is far from professional. The attitude of the staff was very disappointing, especially a receptionist named “Leyland” and his manager. I was forced to pay an additional £580 for another flat just because I have three children. We didn’t use the extra room at all, as it was not connected, and I couldn’t leave my kids alone. When I tried to explain the situation, they insisted it was my fault, not theirs. I called the manager, hoping she would be more understanding, and I politely asked her to cancel the reservation so I could move to another hotel, explaining that it was a misunderstanding and the booking conditions were unclear. She refused and said I had no other option. We ended up staying at the reception for 2.5 hours with three kids — it was exhausting and frustrating, and not even a glass of water was offered during the whole waiting time. To be clear, I have no problem paying extra for my children as stated in the booking conditions — I already did that. My complaint is solely about the staff’s attitude, the way they spoke to us, and how we were welcomed (or not welcomed) upon arrival. The hotel itself is good, but the management truly lacks professionalism and basic customer care.
My review is solely based on the service I received, as I never actually had the opportunity to stay at The Cove. I booked through Airbnb, and unfortunately, the listing was completely misleading. I encountered an issue right from the beginning. While booking during a very emotional time — for a close relative's funeral — I accidentally selected the wrong date (I intended to book for the 28th but mistakenly booked for the 29th). I realised the error almost immediately, contacted Airbnb, and messaged the property to correct it. They were able to adjust the booking by one day, which I appreciated at the time. However, I had also messaged them well in advance (approximately three weeks prior) to request use of the sofa bed, as I was traveling with my cousin, who is male — and we needed separate sleeping arrangements. Their listing stated that a sofa bed was available upon request, yet they insisted I pay an additional £40 for it. This extra charge was not mentioned anywhere in the listing, and I felt it was dishonest to advertise availability without clarifying that it would cost more. Despite my attempts to explain, they refused to waive the fee until I contacted airbnb. There listing still states that the sofa bed is available upon request without mention of the added fee. To make matters worse, the funeral was postponed by a week, and I reached out again to ask about moving my reservation. Given the sensitive nature of the situation, I was hoping for some understanding. However, I was told I had “less than 24 hours’ notice” and was flatly refused any help or flexibility. This, despite the fact that they had previously altered the reservation slightly and the listing makes no mention of being unable to amend bookings under certain circumstances and I put in the change of date with more than 24 hours notice. The communication throughout was poor — I waited hours for responses, which were often unhelpful or dismissive. I was met with rigidity and a clear lack of empathy during an incredibly difficult time. Overall, I found this company to be disorganised, unaccommodating, and lacking in basic human decency. The experience left a very bitter taste, and I would not recommend them to anyone — especially not those traveling under stressful or emotional circumstances.
